This is a great quiet spot between Shingu and Hongu, not far from a bus stop on the main highway across the river. I was walking the Kumano Kodo and could not find accommodations near Koguchi, but you are able to take a bus here from there or Hongu and there are more buses that run by this location than near Koguchi. The bathroom is really cool in this simple and traditional space, which has a fully functioning kitchen, there is no food nearby, so you do need to bring things to prepare. I had planned to eat and pick things up before heading over, but the heavy rains and fatigue changed my plans. The host was kind enough to provide me with some instant foods and came over with some rice balls to make sure I was ok. This would be a great spot for a group hiking or visiting the Kumano region between Hongu and Shingu. I was on my own and the space was quite large for one person.

Aki was super vriendelijk! Toen ik iets wilde weten over de wasmachine kwam hij direct helpen. Het is een mooie afgelegen natuurplek langs de rivier en hij heeft er een waanzinnig mooie plek van gemaakt. Wij hebben ons vermaakt :)

傳統的日式住宅，很棒的體驗，廚房設施很齊全，如果是一群朋友一起來住很適合。 廁所的部分很特別，是生態廁所，上完轉動旁邊的把手就會有泥土(?)覆蓋排泄物，不過對女性會不方便一些。 位置較為偏僻，周圍幾乎沒有其他住宅。不介意的話是個很舒服放鬆的好地方！

Cannot recommend highly enough. We had a wonderful overnight stay at Akinori’s place during our Kumano Kodo from Takijiri to Nachi Taisha. The traditional-style timber house is charming and set amongst a stunning mountainscape. Akinori and his friend Soko were incredibly warm and hospitable hosts. They recommended us a nearby onsen, from where they picked us up, and cooked us a delicious Japanese curry and potato salad for dinner. My partner left behind her kindle and earring by accident and Akinori drove an almost 2 hour round trip just to drop them at our next hostel in Katsuura- before we’d even realised they were missing. Too kind!

We enjoyed our stay at Guesthouse Ikkyu. The house is simple, but has everything you might need. We stayed in January, so the evenings were cold, but Aki provided plenty of heating, beds are comfortable and warm, and we were even given hot water bottles for the beds on particularly cold night. Aki is a great host and an amazing chef. Aki cooked for us each night of our stay and we looked forward to his meals at the end of each day!
