An amazing stay in the cloud forest surrounded by primary and secondary forests, banana, papaya and other fruit trees, gardens and a nice waterfall nearby. Sandra is a great host with lots of local recommendations. One of her neighbors, Norma, offers fabulous home cooked meals at her home for a modest price. We definitely recommend a stay here! Note that there is about a one-hour walk through scenic forests from the bus stop at Santa Rosa to Sandra's, but you can request a truck to bring you to the small bridge for a fee, where it's only about a 20-minute walk then.
Incroyable
We started our trip to Ecuador by staying at Sandy's place, and we didn't want to leave! It was so peaceful; we had our best nights' sleep there. Sandy showed us her cricket farm and the Cock of the Rock lek. Her neighbor, Roberto, took us on a guided hike through the cloud forest pointing out many types of plants and some birds. The scenery and diversity of species is incredible! We ate most of our meals at the neighbor's house, prepared by Norma, who is Roberto's wife. The meals were huge, prepared with food grown locally, and absolutely delicious. Everything about our stay was wonderful and set the bar very high for following places.
I had such a great time here! The area around the cabin is so beautiful - it's amazing to listen to the sounds of the forest from the bed and birdwatch from the hammock. I went on a forest walk with Robert, a local guide, and learned about medicinal plants and local birds. I also saw several cock of the rock birds in a nearby place - the lek. I ate my meals with the local family (Sandra's neighbours) - Norma and Robert. The food was delicious and affordable and the people are very friendly - thank you! I also enjoyed seeing Sandra's cricket farm, walking to Plaza Gutierrez and visiting the local museum of the women artisans who work with cabuyo (agave). All in all, an amazing stay, immersed in nature - recommend!
