The Coachman’s House (TCH) is a stylish property situated on a beautiful rural estate. From the doorstep, guests can enjoy beautiful walking and cycling trails. Local amenities are easily accessed with the village of East Linton only 2 miles away and Dunbar, Haddington and North Berwick just beyond. A regular train service from East Linton (2 miles) connects guests with Edinburgh in under 30 minutes. The Coachman's House has a twin bedroom downstairs and a double bedroom upstairs. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom attached. There is a well equipped kitchen with a dining table for 4 and a comfortable living room with a wood burner. Outside, there is a south facing courtyard with outdoor seating and to the rear there is a cobbled terrace. There is also a paddock with a trampoline, climbing frame, swing and goal posts. The Coachman's is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring East Lothian, the Lammermuirs or Edinburgh. The cottage sits in stunning countryside and is surrounded by many beautiful walks where Scottish wildlife can be seen, such as owls, herons, birds of prey, deer and the occasional otter. The village of East Linton is close by (~2 miles) and has a regular train service to and from Edinburgh, and beyond, in ~20 minutes. Newcastle is around 1 hour by train. There is also a regular bus service to Edinburgh and it can easily be reached by car. TCH occupies a central location within East Lothian with excellent links to the A1 (~5 minutes drive time). Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick are within easy reach. Our host Ginny can answer any questions you have before or during your stay, please get in touch. Had a great stay here, marred only by the rubbish weather (although to be fair we weren’t expecting to be sunbathing in Scotland in late October). The cottage is lovely and had everything we needed, and Ginny was a helpfully and responsive host.
My family loved staying in Ginnys place. The descriptions and photos were accurate. The beds were very comfortable, my daughter (aged 4) loved the fact she needed a footstool to climb into the bed as it made her feel like a princess. Linen and towels were of great quality, the towels were particularly large and fluffy Kitchen very well equipped, although no oil, salt and pepper etc ( unlike all other Airbnbs we have visited- only thing to make the kitchen better) Ginny went out of her way to provide children’s bath toys and hooded towels, kids ikea plates and cutlery. The travel cot was helpfully already put up with a soft toy and sleep sac ready and waiting- a great help when the cots all go up slightly differently. We utilised Ginnys family paddock with trampolines and slides which both of my children enjoyed, while trying to spot the free roaming chickens. All in all a great place to stay when visiting relatives in the area.
This is a lovely house, complete with everything you need. The location is ideal for peace and tranquility. There are lovely walks too. As well as all this, the location is just an easy drive away from Dunbar and Haddington amongst other lovely places. Ginny is a very genial, helpful host, always available but unobtrusive at the same time.
Ginny is a great host and provided really helpful information for our stay. The accommodation is lovely and the bedrooms are really spacious. We had everything we needed. There are some great walks around the cottage and plenty of wildlife to see in this peaceful location. We would definitely be happy to book again.
The flat is in the courtyard of a former carriage house that belongs to a large estate. Very quiet place in a scenic area with lot of historical buildings. It's in the country but East Linton is just a few miles away. There are beautiful walks on the large estate grounds as well as in the area, including beautiful beaches and spectacular rock formations on the coast nearby. The flat is very comfortable, with two bathrooms. The beds are good and the kitchen is well-equipped. The table is rather small but there's not really room for a bigger one, so there's not a lot to be done about that. Ginny and her family are great--very friendly and personable. We had some great chats. They offered a lot of good suggestions on where to go and what to do. We really enjoyed our encounters with them.

The bustling village of East Linton is close by and hosts an award winning butcher, two gastropubs, an organic grocery/deli and a fantastic bakery as well as having playing fields, including football pitches and tennis court, an excellent children's playpark and skatepark and several local walking and cycling opportunities. The towns of Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick (home of 'Fringe By The Sea') are within easy reach by bike, bus or car while the magnificent city of Edinburgh is only 26 miles away and easily reached by bus, car or train.
The well-known town of North Berwick is 7 miles away and has many artisan cafes, shops, a mini golf course and a beautiful beach. Learn about Scottish Seabirds at the Seabird Centre or take a guided boat trip around the Bass Rock to see the world’s largest colony of Gannets, Puffins and other seabirds. Near North Berwick is Tantallon Castle and the National Museum of Flight.
Dunbar is only 6 miles away and prides itself on having an almost completely independent high street, featuring a selection of shops, art galleries and cafes. There’s also the wonderful walled Lauderdale park, a swimming and sports centre and a lively harbour which hosts an excellent fish and chip shop during the summer and a pizza van. Dunbar is also home to Foxlake Adventures, Ocean Vertical, C2C Surf School and East Links Family Park.
The market town of Haddington is 6 miles east of The Coachmans situated beneath the Garleton Hills on the banks of the River Tyne. Agriculture is the basis for Haddington’s prosperity, guests can enjoy the monthly Farmers Market as well as an array of independent retailers, cafes and restaurants and there's a leisure centre offering all sorts of gym classes and swimming as well as a kids soft play.
There is a regular bus service from East Linton around East Lothian and up to Edinburgh (45 mins to the centre).
Regular train services from Drem or Dunbar to Edinburgh and beyond, Dunbar is on the main East Coast line so London can be reached in around four hours.
We recommend guests bring a car. However, should you want to go for a night out, there are several local taxi providers.
