Karungi camp is a wonderfull place to stay. The room is very nice and big. The staf is really helpful and the location is really convienient for the gorilla tracking! Highly recommended.

We felt like home all the time! The staff was extraordinarily friendly! We never had so many nice conversations since travelling through countries. The experiences we made were amazing. The Karungi-Camp Team will fulfill all your dreams. We had the chance to go to an international wedding, join a soccer match, hike though the area, get to know alot of the village and be a part of it. Thank you so much! Wir sind absolut begeistert vom Karungi Camp. Wir wurden vom Team verwöhnt und haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt. Die wunderbar heisse Dusche und das leckere selbstgebackene Brot haben wir so sonst nirgends in Uganda angetroffen! Das Camp war sehr sauber und liegt inmitten eines kleinen Dörfchens. Wir haben uns sehr sicher gefühlt und würden jederzeit wieder im Karungi Camp buchen!

This place is wonderful! Gordon gave us a warm welcome and we enjoyed getting to know him and the rest of staff. The friendliest people in Africa! Yoly was so great communicating with us, and helped us set up our gorilla trek at a fraction of the cost of the big tour groups. They also arranged our transportation from the airport and made everything stress free and easy. Our driver, Alan, was wonderful. Beautiful property and cozy little cottage with a HOT shower. Thank you Yoly and Gordon!

Biwindi Forrest is a remote corner of Uganda. It is 5 hours from Kigali and 10 hours from Kampala. It is also a forgotten part in a totally corrupt nation. There is no electricity to speak of. Solar power costs so much that no one can regain their investment within a life time unless they charge hundreds of dollars per person per night. Everything has to be brought from either Kosoro (45 minutes ride by private car) or from Avale (2.5 hours drive). Unemployment is close to 90% in the community where there are more than 2000 children. Under these circumstances Yoly presented us with a beautiful room, clean, huge bathroom with hot water shower, flush toilet, good food, incredible views from everywhere, a nice garden, and an amazing amount of LOVING CARE. She had organized our gorilla permits, provided us with transportation from Cyanika border and she even went with us to see us off at Avale when we took the bus for Kampala. We have left a part of our hearts with her. The common area with the fire place was inviting and equally inviting was the fresh passion fruit juice and the smiling staff. Yoly's positiveness is beautifully contagious. Do not come here if you are expecting high end creature comfort like ice in your drinks (there is NO POWER) and wifi. Bring your solar powered lights/lanterns, remain flexible about food, think of glamping, let the staff know at what time you would like to take shower so that they can start the wood fire boiler on time for you to get wonderful hot water and you will have a great time. Even if you do not want to do the gorilla trekking, it is a spectacularly beautiful land for hiking, walking, meditating, writing and doing nothing. We spent 3 lovely days in Karungi Camp, a community oriented, environmentally conscious place.
