Amazing stay! The views are to die for! The house is mostly as listed. Could use a little decor help but was otherwise clean and would stay again. Great location, 15 min walk to downtown. 4 min walk to the beach.
The guidelines for writing a post-AirBnB-stay public review are "Think about your experience with the Host, their place, and the effort they put into making your stay comfortable. What do you want other guests to know?" So, below is my honest feedback of our four night stay captured in five major points:- Firstly, the place is not as described. The description claims that the interior lift "guarantees maximum accessibility for people with reduced mobility". However, it fails to mention that one has to go down/up nine interior steps to get to a door which leads to the external staircase of 40 steep and uneven (and, in my opinion, unsafe) wooden steps to reach the external swimming pool. As a result, my adult daughter, with poor walking ability due to cerebral palsy, was in tears because she could not use the pool at all during our stay. Whilst there is a photo of these 40 steps included in the description, there is no evidence that these are the access steps to the swimming pool. Rather the photo of the pool is framed in a way, in my opinion, to give the impression that it is located on one of the terraces attached to the interior of the house i.e. with easy access. When I challenged the Host on this point, he was unresponsive (and, in my opinion, dismissive). Secondly, the cleanliness of the chalet was very poor, in my view. The Host, Juanjo, was unresponsive when I first contacted him about the filth of the following; external terrace floor, barbecue, wine glasses, table mats, kitchen drawers, oven tray, bread crumbs all over the external table/chairs etc. I had to chase Juanjo about this. He replied the next day saying that it was inevitable that somethings would be "a bit dirty" and that we should therefore clean them ourselves. Juanjo then absolved himself of any further responsibility by saying that I should address all my concerns to his housekeeper, Fernando. Thirdly, the check-in process did not go smoothly. The housekeeper, Fernando, texted me at 10.35 to establish our time of arrival. I texted back that it would be around 17.00 but I would confirm at 15.00 which I duly did, reconfirming an anticipated 17.00 arrival. At 16.57, the housekeeper texted me to say "We are expecting you at 17.30" as he had to go out for 30 minutes. I texted back immediately saying we were just two minutes away according to Google Maps, but the housekeeper insisted he had to attend to an emergency. Unfortunately, Google Maps incorrectly shows the address of the place such that the place indicated was 1.5km from the actual location. We therefore had to wait 50 minutes in our car in the 35c heat for the housekeeper to return from his emergency to come and find us. Fourthly, very poor guest welcome. The first thing I said to the housekeeper was that I was not overly impressed by him not respecting the agreed arrival time and that we therefore had to wait in the extreme heat for him to return. He replied that it was our fault as we were the ones who got lost. The housekeeper did not apologize. As he showed us around the villa, he mentioned four times that checkout time was 11am (even though our itinerary clearly states a 12.00 checkout). This was not the welcome we anticipated. Fifthly, communication was very poor. The Host was unresponsive/took substantially more than his one hour typical response time throughout our stay. Please see above for examples. In summary, we gave the Host a chance to address the issues, including me asking him to make a gesture on the price. The Host refused to help. We called AirBnB and asked them to mediate between us and the Host, but he again refused to co-operate. AirBnB therefore proposed to move us but there was no comparable property available in the area, whilst the alternative offer of a hotel was not feasible as our dog would not be allowed. As a result, due to the (in)actions of the Host, we were obliged to stay in the property for the entire four nights, suffering an uncomfortable and stressful stay.
The views from this location are hard to beat! The apartment is clean, well appointed and comfortable for a large group. We loved our stay here even though we had a few hiccups. Our host was always available to answer questions and troubleshoot any issues. While the apartment is lovely, the pool does need some updating. But you soon forget about that by just admiring the views and enjoying a dip when you're not walking down to the beach or enjoying this lovely area (wine tasting, shopping, restaurants are all close by). Given the chance, we would stay here again!
