A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR GUESTS FOR HELPING US ACHIEVE SUPERHOST STATUS - WE'RE VERY PROUD! My hubby Steve and I moved to Glyncorrwg (pronounced Glin-cor-roog) in November 2014 and set upon preparing Mini B (as we nicknamed the smaller of our two bungalows) for holiday lets, but it was so attractive to my niece and her partner they moved in for 18 months until they bought their own home. So on 1st August 2017, we went live on Airbnb and had our first guests on 2nd August - a fantastic start, thanks Airbnb! Married in 1979, we had professional careers in Essex and London, myself as a Director in the Social Housing, Support and Care fields, Steve holding an impressive 42 years with the same company in electronics - he rarely spoke about his work and so I often referred to him as my very own James Bond even though his favourite saying was that he was 'just a pen-pusher'! When we moved in 2014 we were looking to settle for a more peaceful and enjoyable life. We chose Glyncorrwg for the beautiful surroundings and wildlife and fell in love with our new home, Ty Gwyn, and 'Mini B' on sight. Since moving in we have made an existing breeze-block workshop (alongside our home) into a fully functioning, insulated work studio (nicknamed ‘the Long Room’ because it is 32 foot long!) and connected it to the main house; redesigned and refitted our kitchen out and established a new bathroom from an existing bedroom – I think we’re done now with the building work! Steve is an avid book and map collector and his next task is to fully index everything he's collected. To this end we have insulated and heated our ‘timbershed’ to properly house them and make them more accessible for him. He collects all the leaflets you'll find in Mini B! I’m a keen dressmaker and dabble in artwork, now that the ‘long room’ is finished I hope to spend a lot more time on these again. In 2015, I got together with 2 local villagers to form a painting trio that meets every fortnight, supporting each other in our endeavours to paint or draw! As new residents to Glyncorrwg, we have received a very warm welcome from local villagers and are now actively involved in the local life of the village. We are both members of the management committee for the local Noddfa Community Centre (Noddfa – pronounced Nothva – is welsh for sanctuary, shelter or refuge) where I am Secretary. I am also Chair, and Steve Treasurer, of the local ‘New Age Group’ – recently renamed from ‘Old Age Group’ by local villagers (a lot to live up to!), which provides events and activities for those over 50 years of age. So we're pretty busy now that we also have our holiday let to manage too, but we love it and look forward to meeting all our future guests! We're beginning to travel a lot more too. We focused on short breaks in the UK and occasionally around Europe throughout our married life, but more recently we've been 6 times to America (in the last 10 years) and Iceland in 2015 (trying to find the Northern Lights, to no avail!). Our most special trip was to China in 2016, which was fascinating and we recommend it to everyone who will listen! Canada is our next trip, and we're looking to head further afield as well but no specific plans as yet. We both love eating out and are gradually working our way around South Wales! Fish and shell fish are Steve’s favourites, not so much mine - give me hot and spicy any time, but that’s not so much for Steve. Otherwise we’ll try most things, so ask us if you don’t fancy cooking and need help to find somewhere to eat while staying at Mini B.
