自我介绍

I am a biotech entrepreneur working on treatments for cancer and other serious human diseases. My company utilizes new forms of drugs called gene therapy and cell therapy which show enormous promise to significantly improve outcomes in many serious illnesses including infectious disease, monogenic (inherited) disorders, and cancers. If you are curious about it, you can read more at the American Gene Technologies website. My job is pretty much all-consuming, but I love it! It's never boring, and I am constantly learning and challenged. It's fulfilling to me to feel like my work may make a positive difference in the world, and we are getting close to our first clinical trial which is a functional cure for HIV: Essentially, we believe we will be able to take HIV-infected persons and restore them to lifelong natural HIV immunity, so that they don't need daily antiretroviral treatment (pills that can make them feel ill from the chemotherapeutic toxicities as well as other side effects), they would not develop AIDS, not infect others, and cannot be reinfected with HIV. Seems impossible after all these years, but we are on the eve of something that we believe can do that (clinical trials start early 2018 in the Washington DC area). If that succeeds, we have follow-on drugs in development for PKU (phenylketonuria) and solid tumors (cancers) starting with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma).
