We stayed in this cozy cabin right after the fire and during the CV19 outbreak so, of course, times were a little different for us. Most of the nearby local restaurants and stores in the town of Summerhaven were closed or doing reduced hours so navigating meals was a challenge and the hiking trails were all closed. But, we knew this going in and were just thankful Al and Carolyn were still renting their lovely cabin for us to get away for a short weekend stay. It is a short (1/4 mile) walk to the town, but beware, it is not flat. The road is a dirt, curvy mountain road so it's a nice workout in the mountains too. We weren't sure what to expect knowing it is a cabin in the woods and it's underneath another unit. But we were pleasantly surprised by the cabin itself. It is under another unit but we were fortunate to not have anyone above us, so we had the little patio to ourselves and no noise. It is a "log" cabin with a cozy feel but upgraded features like granite countertops and a steam shower. Even though there is a unit above, it does not feel like being in a dark dungeon or afterthought space. There are plenty of windows to get light in and the 2 levels in this unit help give it height. The cabin is built on the mountain and sort of meanders up the side of it. It is a very appealing space with many homey touches throughout. Lots of available quilts and blankets for the beds which were VERY comfortable too. And there are plenty of beds to sleep many people (3 doubles and 3 singles, including the bunk beds), and 2 bathrooms. Note, the downstairs bathroom is very tiny, but adequate. The kitchen has everything you need to cook your own meals and a coffee maker. Lots of seating and 2 small dining tables for meals. One word of caution. The driveway is VERY steep, but short and turns. I wouldn't recommend trying to climb it without 4 wheel drive. There is room to park on the dirt road below and it's a short walk up (although steep). We arrived in the dark and would have rather not even tried the driveway with a minivan. Our van was safe on the street and it was no effort to walk our things up, even though it was steep. There is a rail on the side of the driveway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will consider it again for our next Mt. Lemmon trip. 25-30 degrees cooler in the summer is always worth it for such a short trip! Next time we hope to get some enjoyable hikes in too.

We enjoyed our stay in this cabin. It had a great setup for multiple families to vacation together. We had multiple kids ranging from 6 years old to 6 months old with us. The cabin is not large, however, that was not a problem for us as we were up in the mountains to hike and spend time in nature. There are many fruit trees on the property. The apples were delicious! It is a short (but steep!) walk to summerhaven which was very nice. There were a couple concerns we had when booking this cabin that were mentioned in the description. The first being that this cabin is under another cabin. This did end up being an issue for us. The people above us stayed up past 12am and it seemed as if they were moving chairs in and out from a table which was noisy on the wood floor and made it hard to sleep. The upstairs guests were not trying to be loud, it's just that the noise really travels through the wood floor. The second issue is that this cabin has no private patio or forest area for outdoor relaxation. The whole cabin has 3 patios. The lower cabin has no access to the upper 2 patios, but shares the lower patio with the upper cabin because it has the grill and fireplace. This was never an issue for us as we only had 1 night overlap with the upstairs guests, but I would be annoyed to feel crowded out of the only patio I had access to. I would consider staying in this cabin again if I was in a group that booked both the upper and lower cabin. Otherwise, I cannot afford to loose sleep with noisy upstairs neighbors- I already have kids for that!
