My wife Necerita and her sister and grankids and a close friend visited Esperanza's cottages for 3 days. Carlos helped organize them all getting to the island and his auntie Esperanza and her family welcomed them all and helped with everything. The accommodation was rustic but that was what was expected and wanted. The family really enjoyed their relaxing stay and trek across the beautiful unspoilt island. I look forward to joining Necerita for another visit when I return back from Canada. Necerita and the family brought all their own foods but bot some local crabs on the island. Carlo was very helpful too by being in contact with Necerita at all times. Necerita tells me that it was a great escape island holiday.
2 part review. Island and accommodation. Added info at the end. Island. The beach and island are amazing and really a must be/see/experienced. Truly better than most destinations in the Philippines. We felt like Robinson Crusoe or Tom Hanks at Cast Away in the best possible way. The beach has white sand with corals and over looks 2 beautiful islands under a blue sky during the day and lit by stars during the night. It is truly magical. This place is awesome for swimming and snorkelling. Carlo also said you can explore the island too if you are staying here longer than we did, caving, cliff jumping and island hopping. Accommodation. The hut is perfect for those wanting to escape the city life. There is no electricity, there is no WiFi which is a great excuse to disconnect and enjoy nature. If you need to connect that bad, globe works well and has 3G signal, but do yourself a favour a close off your devises unless to take pictures. We had the whole island to ourselves so there were no noise while we were there, just the sound of the waves, wind, and the songs of the birds. This is really paradise that people didn’t seem to have touched. The flip side of the coin is since this is an undeveloped island, do not expect a resort living here. Bring twice the food and drinking water you think you would need as there is no place to buy in the island and bring twice as less cloths too since again you would most likely only be the only ones in the island with the caretakers. If you are finicky about beddings and linens, better bring your own - same goes for the pillows. It is an island far from the gocery so it is hard for the caretakers to get a hold of the necessary cleaning supplies. Bring your own soap, shampoo and toilet paper too. Don’t forget to put it in a water tight bag :) Added info. Getting here. We flew from Clark to San Jose (PAL) then took a van to San Roque Bulalacao (180P). Carlos’ parents picked us up in their van at the main road to their pier then rode their boat to the island (additional 1700P, 2 people, round trip). Our boat ride was a bit rough because we asked to be dropped off at the beach because it was windy when we arrived. If you are easily scared of the water, there is an alternative of a 20min hike to the beach from a calmer landing point. Carlo can help you set these up. They have lots of coconuts in the island which you can buy for a mere 20P each. Also the caretakers can fish sea urchins for you, just ask them their rate. All in all I would go back to this place because he island is really beautiful and would stay longer.
