Very quiet and peaceful, a really great place to relax and take in the surroundings. Being on the farm with all the animals roaming around was very enjoyable for everyone.
This Rustic cabin was exactly what was described. Very rustic, in the middle of a large ranch, and we loved it. The horses and donkey were always happy to greet us, the cows meandered around, and the peaceful quiet was wonderful. Although rustic, the beds were comfortable, and the sheets were lovely to slide into. The yard had been freshly mown, so we took advantage of their yard games, much to the delight of the youngest. Jane's instructions and recommendations were great. Calvert has a really cute downtown. Things to be aware of: remember that Jane said the water had sulphur in it, and that comes along with a sulphur smell. The smell was only there as long as the water was running. Also, make sure to close the door shut completely. We came home after a day of exploring and found the door had come open and mosquitos had found their way inside. Luckily, I brought a little portable bug zapper that kept us bite free.
Loved EVERYTHING about this cabin. If you want fancy and all the amenities it’s not for you. If you want peaceful, old nostalgic surroundings and quiet then it is. Grew up going to great grandmothers with well water so didn’t bother us. My teenagers thought was so cool to look at books, record player etc. will be back when able to walk to river as hunters had their camp there and didn’t want to disturb them.
The cabin is located just outside of the Victorian town of Calvert, TX. The main street, Hwy 6, is lined with historic buildings (many showcasing historical markers) bustling with antique shops, bars, a local winery, restaurants, coffee bar, and more! The town is also filled with Victorian homes perfectly demonstrating the aesthetic of that particular era. We hope that you will not only visit but also stop into the Farmers Market happening on Saturday mornings.
We do ask that you don't drive anywhere but the roadways. There are cattle and calves being born and we wouldn't want you to run over them. You can fish from the tanks without a license, but if you fish the river you MUST have a fishing license. We do ask in the tanks, catch and release only. The river you can keep whatever you catch. We do not provide kayaks or canoes, but there is accessibility to put those in down at the river.
