Very friendly host with super good recommendations. A very nice terrace and a lovely room.
This is a unique, almost eccentric stay at the heart of historic Shyambazar. Tathagata’s “small space” aesthetic is brilliant. It does take some getting used to, unlike the breathtaking views from the rooftop patio. The secret charm of this stay is the presence of a 5th generation North Calcutta family. The more Thathagata, his brother and his outstanding son, Soham, enter your life the more the whole experience becomes enriched. This is not just about a tiny well designed room or beautiful views from the patio or the sweet presence of green parokeets, it is about all this wrapped in the warm embrace of a wonderful traditional hospitality and very special hosts.
I really enjoyed this Airbnb. It’s very cosy, has a desk for remote work, beautiful views, and is very close to the metro. The host is also always available and very helpful
I had a hard time finding a place to stay in Kolkata - it felt like every place was either overpriced for what it was or was dingey and gross. A friend recommended Owl's Nest and the choice became obvious. The place itself is very tiny but great. The balcony is so nice, even in the heat. The location is a non-touristy neighborhood that features great food (Golbari is a must!) and interesting places to check out. And if you do want to go south to New Market area, the train is incredibly easy to use and the station is a 5 minute walk from the bnb. But perhaps the best part of the stay was Soham and his family. They were so kind and helpful! Also, Soham's food tour is amazing and worth every rupee.
We had a great time staying in the owl’s nest in Kolkata - if you’re a nature lover who still wants to enjoy the big city then this is the place for you. We especially enjoyed watching the birds coming over to the balcony at any time of the day, the sunsets and sunrises you are able to see from the cabin and having at least a bit of calmness within the hustle of Kolkata. However, keep in mind that (as in every major Indian city) it’s quite noisy even at night and you’ll need earplugs if you’re sensitive to noise.

We cherish the opportunities of cultural exchange & the wonderful experience of meeting new people from across the world that Airbnb offers. Indrani is an expert cook, taking forward, the techniques of traditional Bengali cooking learnt from her mother and mother in law. Her cooking skills have been highly appreciated by our guests from all across the world.She has her official f b cooking page called 'Indrani's cookbook' I am Tathagata, a Chartered Accountant by profession. I love to help guests to the city, discover the city beneath the facade. Interior designing is my hobby & have designed all 3 rooms with a lot of passion. Feeding the wild birds that now flock to the terrace and a little bit of gardening is my solace for the soul.
