Absolutely gorgeous 10 days spent in France. Beautiful old house, stunning location, lovely hosts what more could you ask for.
My children and I had the loveliest time at Farjanel, a magically beautiful place. Torsten and Catherine showed us such kindness and helped us with advice and recommendations. We wished we could have stayed longer!
Torsten and Catherine are the most welcoming and friendly people you could wish to meet. The barn was as described and was a wonderful base to explore the area. As a family we have been to the area several times as we love it so and this property was perfect for us to explore more. The pool was perfect and we all enjoyed cooling off particularly on the days when the hear was extreme. Thank you both again for being such wonderful hosts.
Thorsten & Catherine were such charming hosts who made our stay and holiday one to remember. Before our trip everything went smoothly and communication was great and this continued. Their place is in a great location, peaceful and surrounded by trees and great countryside, yet super convenient for everything else you might need and all the main places of interest in the Dordogne. Thorsten and Catherine were full of great local tips and we just really enjoyed having little conversations with them as we bumped into them as they went about their daily life and we ours. They were very warm and friendly hosts and a really interesting couple who were great to talk too - oh and Catherine offering us a delicious homemade peach tart made with peaches from the tree in the garden was a wonderful surprise and treat. Thank you very much Thorsten & Catherine for a lovely relaxing stay, one we'll remember for a long time.
Nearby village of Saint Cyprien (7 minutes) has a couple of restaurants, bakery, café bar, grocery store, super market, butcher and post office. Swimming in the Dordogne river, cycling, canoeing, golf and tennis are nearby.
Further shops, supermarket and many more restaurants / café bars etc in Sarlat-la-Canéda. Sarlat-la-Canéda is a very popular tourist destination; a charming and busy traditional town with all amenities which is the gourmet capital of Perigord Noir. Lots of 15th and 16th century houses make this a very picturesque place and there are many good restaurants and cafés to discover. Excellent market on Saturday.
Don't miss a trip to La Roque-Gageac (approx 20 minutes) a stunningly beautiful village under the towering cliffs. The village regularly wins France's 'Prettiest Village' competition.
Competing with La Roque-Gageac in the prettiness stakes are the villages of Beynac and Castelnau each which its majestic fortified medieval castles.
Perhaps the most famous of the Dordogne tourist attractions are the cave paintings around Les Eyzies. There are more pre-historic caves in this area than you could ever visit in a day! Les Eyzies lies at the heart of an unspoilt area of great natural beauty with rolling hills, tranquil rivers and fascinating cliff and rock formations. It has some of the world's most beautiful caves with outstanding stalactite and stalagmite crystallizations. And the cave-lined Vézère valley has been classified as a heritage site by UNESCO. The most well-known of all is the cave at Lascaux which was discovered in 1940. The paintings date back some 17,000 years.
Canoeing on the Dordogne is hugely popular. There are rental centres on almost every curve and corner of the river.
Farjanel is located just outside the village of Berbiguières. Easy and shady parking on the grounds near the cottage.
