We really enjoyed our stay! It was comfortable and clean. The location is beautiful, and we especially loved the tables in the sand near the ocean for eating and hanging out. Also loved the upstairs porch for relaxing and bird/wildlife viewing. The beds are amazingly comfortable! Everything was clean. We did have a few ants wander in but we easily shooed them out. The restaurant area is newly built and very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. However, the kitchen was unable to accomodate gluten-free substitutions to some of the meals for my husband. Also, as other reviewers mentioned, be sure you know that the bathroom is downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs. It wasn't a problem for us, but it could be an issue for people with mobility issues or small children.

This is a great place to stay and enjoy the remote part of Puntarenas with pretty well-managed cabin lodge. We really enjoyed the beautiful Cabuya area and the number of trails nearby. Be prepared for the songs and music from all the wildlife so close by, btw you will need that bugspray. The attached restaurant, the access to beach are all good pluses for staying here.

We had a 3 night reservation but moved out after the first night. The condition of our room were unnaceptable. There was a giant-ants infestation in the bathroom, 2 lizards running the walls of the bedroom and mini-ants like insects on the bed and under one of the pillows. We couldnt get out of there fast enough. We wrote the owner of the property but he responded this exact quote "it is almost impossible to prevent some ants from entering and geckos help keep the other bugs under control". In the morning, I woke up with a small rash on my side. Had to check into an ER in San Jose 2 days later. I am now on a antiviral medication for being infected during my night a Calala Lodge. The doctor in CR and another one back home in Canada confirmed the infection could have been caused by unsanitary bedding condition. Be aware and see pictures I added. On top of that, the wifi bandwidth is very bad and you cannot load a Facebook newsfeed or Instagram pictures feed. Forget Netflix or Youtube altogether. The resort is 30 minutes outside of town on a very rough dirtroad requiring a 4x4. Your unit is 2 meters away from that dirtroad so you will hear every single motorcycle, truck and car drive by during the night. No screens on windows, no AC and no swimmable beach make this the worst resort I've stayed at in Costa Rica.
