I can highly recommand Ahmads place. His family was so nice and kind to us we really felt welcome. It was very interesting for me to have conversations with him to understand the situation of the palestine people better. I am very greatful for this eye opening experience. Thanks for letting us stay at your place. Sabine and Noemi
We were 3 lone women booked in this place for 3 nights while we were visiting Palestine. We booked it because it was inexpensive and was advertising one queen bed, one sofa bed and 2 single beds. So each of us could have their own bed since we were exhausted after traveling through Jordan. The first night we arrive and discover that there’s only a double bed and a sofa (not a sofa bed) to sleep on in the room. So it was misrepresented. The living room had 2 sofas though so someone could sleep there. Fair enough. We tell Ahmad over the phone about the bed situation and ask for extra bed sheets so we can make beds on these sofas and go to sleep. Also multiple times we were told by various members of this family that there is something wrong with us not getting that double bed is actually 2 beds :/ Ahmad gets very angry over text saying it’s a refugee camp and we can’t expect luxuries. We’d only asked for extra bed sheets and a fan since there was no air conditioning, even though his listing had advertised air-con as well. Apparently the sheets and fan were a luxury. We thought we’d sorted the matter as Ahmad’s sister showed up with the stuff. Yet lo and behold Ahmad’s mum comes in as we’re getting ready for sleep and shoves her phone in our hands with Ahmad’s screaming over a phone. Because this host doesn’t even live in Palestine. The hostel is owned and managed by his family but since they don’t have much English, Ahmad and his wife residing in Italy are the “PR people”. Apparently us pointing out the listing should be fixed as the beds weren’t listed right and there was no air-con meant we’d disrespected his family and culture and that meant half an hour of being screamed at by Ahmad. I told him to stop screaming and he passes the phone to his wife who after explaining Ahmad wasn’t screaming, just talking very loudly as per his culture, she begins screaming and ranting at us as well for another 15min. Once they got unburdened they accepted it was all a misunderstanding and hung up the phone. Ahmad’s mum makes our beds on the living room sofas and we go to sleep. The following evening we’d run out of clean clothes and put the washing machine on. Just one full wash, 45min cycle. The last night just as we arrive to the room, Ahmad’s mum and sisters with, of course, Ahmad screaming over the phone barge into our place. There were doors in there that lead to their house and that we couldn’t lock. They could come in whenever and however they liked. Ahmad had come to the conclusion that us using the washing machine once and sleeping in the living room meant we’d incurred a surcharge of 200 euros… At this point we were sick and tired of his screaming and scams. He’d changed the hostel listing over the previous day and marked the washing machine and living room as paid facilities and was taking advantage to scream and cuss at us to pay and leave as soon as. The mum, sisters and their boyfriends as well as a neighbor had barged into our rooms screaming at us, Ahmad and his wife calling us bitches and motherfuckers over the phone. Airbnb was messaged urgently and did not reply. I called the emergency services but the signal was bad and when it connected it put me through to the Israeli police who couldn’t help us in Palestine. I was hanging just outside the door in case the assault was becoming physical so I can go in the street and call for help. Long story short they left after we gave them 100 shekels, basically everything we had left in our wallets. We were easy victims and they took advantage. We didn’t get any sleep that night, expecting them to barge in through one of the doors again and throw us in the street or rob us. We left as soon as the sun was up. It was an awful traumatizing experience that none of us had ever been through before. We’d traveled Asia and Africa on our own and no one had ever assaulted or treated us like this. Airbnb offered no help during or after the fact. They closed the ticket even though we told them to keep it open until we’d arrived safely back to UK and can provide them with photos and videos and proof. its been 2 weeks and we have been totally ignored and dismissed by airbnb, nothing works - messages or phonecalls. Its our last time using airbnb as its clearly not safe to book accommodation through it Palestine had been such an amazing experience, warm friendly people who would go the extra mile for you. The hospitality could not be faulted, be it shop, restaurant or public transport. I fear Ahmad and his scam are bringing Palestine and its reputation down. We begged Airbnb to take him down, not just because of the assault, but also because of the misrepresentation and cleanliness and standards of the place. They have not done it. Please don’t give this place any custom, particularly if you are lone women traveling. Ahmad and his mother are running a dangerous scam and they do not deserve anyone’s support. There’s plenty other places in Dheisheh camp or Aida camp that deserve your money. Whole experience have been unreal After chats with Airbnb lasting 2 weeks , all we got was money back for our stay and apologies from one guy at customer service .

I am a third-generation refugee, born in the Deheisha Refugee Camp. I have been lucky enough to live abroad, and my time in other countries opened my eyes and expanded my perspective. I believe that travel can be more than a vacation. When we befriend people of other cultures, we can make meaningful connections that allow us to grow as individuals and hopefully, make the world a better place. I offer alternative tours of Palestine, taking guests to cities that aren’t shown on TV (and to ancient, continuously-inhabited villages in the South Hebron Hills that are excluded from Israeli maps). I’ve been featured on the BBC, NYTimes, and Rai. I love what I do. Facilitating exchange between Palestinians and travelers helps me believe that a free and peaceful future is possible. My foreign friends bring me hope. I speak English, Russian and Arabic. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I know that traveling to Palestine for the first time can feel intimidating. I’m happy to talk-through concerns and offer advice.
