Unfortunately when we checked in, the heating was broken which The hostdid tell us about an hour before we got there. No one was able to fix it until Monday so we had to check in to a hotel. Obviously the heat breaking was not The hosts fault. However, once we contacted Airbnb about getting a full refund and left for the hotel, I got notified that the host said we trashed the place. We were at this location for maybe 2 hours, ate dinner before we left- no dishes besides two forks were used. We didn't even unpack our bags. He said the cabinets were all open, there was a dirty washcloth, the bed was slept in, and there was garbage all over the floor. We cleaned all of our belongings and any trash we brought in with us before leaving. The woman that helped me from Airbnb even acknowledged that this situation seemed a little odd for me. I'm a travel nurse so why would I risk losing my Airbnb account and trash a house? More concerned about going to a place with heat before I started my job.
Steven is a great host and very accessible and accommodating. I was in the area for work in Charlottesville and this house in Scottsville was is a great location, not too close to the hustle and bustle, but not too far away to be inconvenient. The small town of Scottsville is very cute as well and has some nice hidden gems too. The house had everything I needed except for something to clean the floors, which is only relevant to me because I was there for 3 months. The only downside is that it gets very hot in the summer and after the AC split broke he was able to provide a window unit, but it just doesn’t do enough to really cool the house too much. I would definitely stay here again if I traveled to Charlottesville for work again.
I wish I could give the amazing town of Scottsville 5 stars, while rating this host as one star. During my extended stay I had multiple problems with the heating and ac not working, water leaking in the kitchen, etc and it took me finally complaining to Airbnb to get stuff done. The day I checked out, he had a ladder leaning against the house that had blown over and damaged my car. I’m still waiting for him to respond to my messages and have had to, yet again, contact Airbnb for support. Again, the location is great, and Scottsville is an amazing, quaint town full of friendly people. I only stayed as long as I did because I fell in love with the area and the people. But this particular host should stop trying to Airbnb and stick to being a the slumlord that he is.
Steve's place was so nice I extended. Whether you want to just getaway for a weekend or have an elongated escape, this cabin is perfect. Walking distance to the nature preserve, and a great local brewery and restaurants.
The place is perfect. I got to go to sleep to the sound of the stream right outside my window. Steps to hiking on the nature preserve, and an amazing craft brewery. Awesome local restaurants, but a great kitchen to cook in as well. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway or an extended stay, this place is what you want.
