Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple built by King Walagamba. A huge rock lies as the roof of temple. It is believed that there is a network of tunnels that connect to to the Ravana caves , Bogoda wooden bridge and several other temples which was used by King WEalagamba to escape from the Indian invaders.

This is a Buddhist temple located 7KM from Downtown Ella. the uniqueness of the temple is that the entire temple is on a carved rock. it is said that a king who ruled Sri Lanka long time back has built it and offered to the development of Buddhism. The main attraction of Dova temple is the rock carved stature of Buddha which is as tall as 30ft.

Dowa Raja Maha Viharaya lies few kilometres away from the Bandarawela town on. This temple is thought to be done by King Walagamba in the in first century BC. Behind this stupa, inside the cave is a tunnel called the Ravana cave.
