As Portaferry is on a Peninsula there is a car ferry between Strangford and Portaferry, it only takes 10 minutes to cross the stretch of water but over an hour to drive round by road.

You MUST take the ferry! It leaves every 30 mins- you can take the car but we never do, just walk on and visit Portaferry - the 10 minute trip gives you the best view ever of the Lough. While in Portaferry you can visit Exploris aquarium
