Santa Maria Nascente (Duomo di Milano) Milan's majestic Cathedral is the symbol of the city, and its Gothic architecture screams "romance", especially if you take the trip up to the Duomo terraces, where you'll be treated to close-up glimpses of the church's 135 impressive spires as well as magnificent city views. Tips : On the roof, look out for the Madonnina, a gilded figure of Mary on the tallest spire. It was the highest point in Milan until the Pirelli skyscraper was built in 1958. Try Sunset among the Spires, a one-hour guided tour of the terraces (English tours: Friday, 6 pm; Italian tours: Friday and Saturday, 7 pm). Book in advance.
