Archaeological Museum.Inside a splendid Venetian building, this museum traces the social development of Argolis, from the hunter-gatherers of the Fracthi cave to the sophisticated Mycenaean-era civilisations, through beautifully presented archaeological finds from the surrounding area. Exhibits range from Paleolithic fire middens, dating from 32,000 BC, to elaborately painted amphorae (c 520 BC). You may also spot the only existing bronze armour from near Mycenae (3500 years old and complete with boar-tusk helmet), a wealth of funereal offerings and ceremonial clay masks.

The Archaeological Museum is accommodated in the imposing in size as well as strict in symmetry, stone-built Venetian structure which covers and encases the central, Syntagma Square on its west side. It was first built in 1713, during the second reign of the Venetians, under the Naval Proveditore Augustine Sagredo to be used as the navy's depository, according to the marble inscription fitted on the building's frontage, written in Latin. It is widely acknowledged as one of the best well-preserved Venetian structures in the whole of Greece.

The Archaeological Museum of Argos is closed for renovations but that of Nafplion is now open after extensive renovations and is certainly worth a visit. Highly recommended.

The museum is located in Syntagma Square, the central square of the city. Inside the museum you will see a rich collection from various areas of Argolis such as Tyrins, Mycinae, Assini, Kastraki, Epidavros and Argos. The oldest exhibit comes from Prosymna village from 32,000 BC. The building built in 1713 by Agostino Sagredo and it was used to as a hub of the Venetian Navy.
