Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum holds a history of generations of shark fishing and processing. The visit includes shark tasting and a live presentation of this history and interesting facts about the Greenland shark. After the museum, be sure to visit the drying house where the shark has to hang to dry.

The Bjarnahöfn Shark Museum is a fascinating exhibition on the processing of traditional Icelandic fermented shark. Located on the northern shores of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, this site gives you the opportunity to learn all about how the sharks have always been caught, buried, hung and prepared, an operation that takes months of work and results in something that seems just revolting. Here, you are more than welcome to try this foul-smelling delicacy, and wash it down with a shot of Icelandic Brennivín.

This is one of the best museums in Iceland. Its 15 minuets drive away from Stykkishólmur through lava fields. This place is a must see.

The Shark Museum at Bjarnarhofn farm, close to Stykkisholmur, is where visitors can get a down-home taste of ‘real’ Iceland. The friendly curators and owners reveal fascinating details about the local Greenland shark from which traditional ‘hakarl’ is made.
