Always one of the most beautiful and romantic residences of lake Como, Villa del Balbianello at Lenno (COMO) overlooks an enchanting wooded promontory, at the extreme point of the Dosso di Lavedo, which plunges into the waters of the lake forming a small peninsula. It was built at the beginning of the 12th century and was frequented by intellectuals and outstanding figures of the Italian Risorgimento.

This may be the most magical house in all of Italy. The villa sits on its own promontory between Ossuccio and Lenno separating the bays of Diana and Venus. This villa of loggias, palazzini, grand staircases and terraces spills down to the lakeshore through austerely manicured verdant gardens offering relentlessly picturesque lake vistas. More recently Villa Balbianello has become world famous for its movie connections featuring in A Month by the Lake (1995), Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002), and Casino Royale (2006). Open: March - November Access: Water taxi from the right-hand end of the Bay of Venus in Lenno, or by walking and following the signposted trail.
