The New River Trail State Park is a wonderful asset to our communities. Formally a railroad line for Norfolk-Southern, the trail is a mostly flat 57 mile trail. It's great for hiking, jogging, and biking! The trail follows along side Chestnut Creek and eventually the New River. There are many access points to the trail. Our family's favorite area of the trail is from the Gambetta access to Fries Junction...simply stunning scenery!

The New River Trail is great for Biking, Walking, Running, and Horseback riding.

Right near downtown Galax, this trailhead access is great for a jaunt into nature! We like to follow our hike with a beer at Creek Bottom Brewery! You have to pay for parking, but you are supporting the park service!
