Meteora is a cluster of enormous dark sandstone rocks rising out of Kalambaka, near the first Pindos and Chassis. The monasteries of Meteora, built on the tops of some of the rocks, are today the second most important monastic complex in Greece, after Mount Athos. Of the thirty that have historically existed, only six currently operate, which have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988.

One of the most spectacular sites of Greek mainland.The journey is a bit long ,maybe 4 hours driving or more ,but the reward is great and you can experience the beautiful landscape on the way.Only if you leave very early in the morning and return late at night as you have to visit at least 2 monasteries(including the one of a James Bond movie).You can enjoy a tasty fish in Karavomylos on the way ,to give you strength and motivation!

Enchanting landscapes and beautiful monasteries. Being by far one of the most spectacular and beautiful areas, Meteora is located in Thessaly, Central Greece, a little more than 215km away from Thessaloniki. As the name of the area itself means “Suspended in the Air” we can easily understand why these Byzantine creations along with the surrounding natural beauties are truly unique.
