The historic Rex Thratre in downtown Galax host the Blue Ridge Backroads Live Show each Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m. Old-Time and Bluegrass music bands are typically featured.

Owned and operated by the City of Galax, Va. - every Friday night, from the stage of the historic Rex Theater, WBRF FM sends out 100,000 watts of live old tyme and bluegrass music into five states and around the globe via the internet. Built in 1939, a vibrant movie theater for 44 years. Reborn in 1993 by volunteers of the downtown merchants association and finally in 1999 teaming with WBRF to begin broadcasting weekly. The program is call "Blue Ridge Backroads Live".
