The “circle” is iconic to Indianapolis. In the holiday season, it’s a local favorite.

Completed in 1902, this ornate limestone monument in the heart of the city is a tribute to Indiana's Union casualties in the Civil War. As construction progressed, salutes to those who served in other conflicts were added. Its observation level, accessible by elevator or stairs, affords a panoramic view of the city skyline. From Thanksgiving to January, the monument is festooned in holiday lights. May-October daily 10:30 am-5:30 pm; November-April Friday-Sunday 10:30 am-5:30 pm. The elevator ride to the top of the monument costs US$2 adults, US$1 children, free for seniors and veterans; free if you walk to the top. (The elevator ride down is free.).

The monument is located on Monument Circle in the center of downtown and has come to symbolize the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana. The Col. Eli Lilly Civil War Museum is housed in the lower level. Observation level is 330 steps up or take the elevator to step 290.
