The Fountain of Neptune is a neoclassical monument in the central place of the Plaza de Canovas del Castillo. It was designed in 1777 and construction started in 1782, ended in 1786 .

The Neptune Fountain is one of the most beautiful white marble neo-classical fountains in Madrid. It sits in the center of Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, known by all as Plaza de Neptuno. The square is surrounded by incredible aristocratic structures built between the eighteenth and nineteenth century, including the Ritz and Palace hotels. It is part of the large project commissioned by King Charles III to modernise the city. The architect Ventura Rodríguez was put in charge of this project, who turned to Juan Pascual de Mena to create the Neptune Fountain. It was built between 1780 and 1784. Atlético Madrid, the football stadium based in Madrid, celebrate their victories there.

Junto a Cibeles, Neptuno es una de las fuentes más bellas y majestuosas de Madrid. Ambos dioses ocupan puestos prominentes dentro de la jerarquía mitológica griega y rivalizan en el terreno deportivo, ya que la afición del Atlético de Madrid celebra sus victorias en la plaza del dios del mar, mientras que la del Real Madrid lo hace en la de Cibeles.
