Very interesting! (Don't worry: you never get the feeling of being underground.) Built around 1900 by Cuypers, the architect of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Central Stations of Amsterdam and Maastricht. The caves are very beautifully decorated in the style of the roman catacombs. They're in fact so accurate that restorers have come from Rome to copy the copies! The caves are especially beautiful during the festive season.

De Romeinse Katakomben zijn een ondergronds gangenstelsel in Valkenburg in Nederlands Zuid-Limburg. Het is een uiterst zorgvuldige replica van delen van de catacomben in Rome.

Dit ondergronds bouwwerk is begin van de 20e eeuw met grote precisie uit het mergel gehouwen naar voorbeeld van de catacomben in Rome. De catacomben bestaat uit een oostelijke deel dat in 1910 en het westelijke deel dat in 1912 werd geopend.
