Mt Eden is the highest Volcano (sleeping Volcano!) in Auckland and the view is magnificent from the top. Also it's the site of an old Maori Marae, and you can see evidence of where the structures were built over shaped ground from over 200 years ago. At the base of the mountain is the shopping village of Mt Eden, which also has a great night life and busy cafes, and an exellent little bookshop!

Just 5 km from downtown Auckland it is the highest volcano in Auckland on Mt Eden. The last eruption was about 15,000 years ago, leaving a crater 50Mt deep. Walk to the top of Mt Eden Volcano over 2km in about 1 hour. At the top you will get a 360° view of Auckland so long as the rain stays away. Those with limited mobility can request a keypad access code to the security gates at the entrance of the summit road and drive to the top in their own vehicle.
