The best bread in town is just a few steps away! Walk down Fillmore, turn right on Geary and right next to the post office is a tiny "mall" where Jane makes a selection of fresh breads daily, as well as pastries, sandwiches and coffee. Bread as good as you will find in Europe.

This is a huge grocery store that will have just about anything you need. Best of all, it's open 24 hours. That said, it's heavily protected and not the most pleasant shopping experience and if you don't come from an urban setting, you may not enjoy going to Safeway after dark.
