Skateboarding for beginners with a pro

Learn the basics of skateboarding from me, a professional skateboarder, at this outdoor skate park in Boston. This family-friendly lesson is aimed at all skill levels. I recommend bringing your own equipment if possible—Orchard Skateshop is one good place to buy a new board. • You’ll get to know me and your fellow participants and share your experience level—if any. I’ll then lead a stretching and warmup session. • I’ll teach you the basics of skateboarding, including rolling on level ground and turning, before helping you learn how to ride down a small ramp. • Finally, I’ll answer any questions you have and make recommendations for continuing your skateboarding journey here in Boston or back at home. You’ll roll away with new skills and confidence—and maybe even a budding passion for skating.

Capture Boston's historic neighborhoods with a photographer

Join me, a local photographer, for an architecture- and history-focused photo walk around Boston’s Back Bay and Beacon Hill, revealing iconic locations and hidden gems beloved by locals. I’ll share tips and techniques for capturing the best photos of our tour—no fancy equipment required! • In Copley Square, you’ll photograph the interiors of three stunning buildings—the Boston Public Library, Trinity Church, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel—as I discuss their architecture. • Stroll to some of the city’s most photogenic destinations, including the Massachusetts State House, the cobblestone streets in Beacon Hill, and the lagoon at the Boston Public Garden. I’ll offer my advice on the best angles and viewpoints. • Take photos of stately 1860s brownstones, intimate gardens, and the residences of historic Boston figures, including Edwin Booth, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Robert Frost, and Louis Brandeis. We will start our tour at the Lenox hotel in the heart of the Back Bay neighborhood, and will end at historic Faneuil Hall where there are endless places to eat and explore after the tour. Not only will we visit the famous Boston Freedom Trail, but also hidden treasures not covered on other tours. My tour runs approximately 2 1/2 hours. Unlike some other walking tours, I try to cover as much of Boston as possible. The walk is not fast paced, but we do cover about two miles. Wear comfortable shoes. The Back Bay - Explore one of Boston's most famous neighborhoods. Home to some of Boston's most beautiful buildings such as the Boston Public Library and the Trinity Church. Boston Public Garden - Visit the beautiful gardens, and say hello to the Swan Boats, and the Make Way for Ducklings statues! If you come during the right time of year, they may even be donning some accessories! Boston Common - Bask in the freedom of the oldest public park in the United States. Cheers Bar - Where everybody knows your name. Beacon Hill - View Boston's most historic neighborhood. Complete with original brick sidewalks and gas lanterns (you can thank some friendly 20th-century neighborhood rioters for those bricks). Haul up the sails! Take the tiller! Or just chill with an adult beverage while our historic schooner slides through Salem Sound past lighthouses, forts, and waterfront homes. We'll motor out from Pickering Wharf in downtown Salem and call for volunteers to help raise the sails. Depending on the wind, we may shape a course toward Beverly, Marblehead, or head straight out toward the islands! Our interactive crew point out landmarks, explain the operation of the schooner, and mix drinks with equal facility. The captain and crew will explain the significance of the FAME, privateering, and the War of 1812. The firing of the cannon is always a highlight! The sails last roughly an hour and forty minutes. When we return to Pickering Wharf, you're right in the heart of downtown Salem — perfectly placed for a meal, a drink, or a stroll! Note: We will not sail if steady rain, high winds, or thick fog are expected; you will be refunded. If do we cancel a sail, we will reach out to you thru air bnb. Dress for the weather — you are exposed to the elements on our 1812 schooner! This trip is NOT appropriate for infants or toddlers. But once kids are 5 years old, they really enjoy it! The schooner is certified for 49 passengers plus crew. But since 2021 we are sailing at 60% capacity, which means there will be a maximum of 30 guests on your sail.

We will meet on the docks of East Boston where we will tear into and slurp dozens of local oysters, harvested by our oyster farmer friends, while looking over the harbor and skyline. You will learn how to properly shuck an oyster and will go home with a shucking knife of your own. The memories will be in the details. We will set up in "flash-mob" "pop-up" style along the water. Expect the unexpected. Other things to note This is an outdoor experience. To get to the dock, I encourage you to take a water taxi! The sightseeing unfolds to the storytelling as we bring to life the passions, personalities, and psychologies behind world changing events like The Boston Massacre, Tea Party, Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, and Battle of Bunker Hill. There are no silly costumes or awkward "reenacting." You'll get both the Patriot and British perspectives along with insights from the most important scholarship without any patriotic fluff or partisan agenda. The goal is to do justice to both the city of Boston and the story of America with light-hearted humor and enthusiasm and for you to get a masterclass education while having fun. Maps, visuals, and even Lego's are used to make the story accessible and entertaining for all ages and interest levels. In this experience you’ll make your own mosaic at the SoWa Mosaics studio in the heart of Boston’s Art + Design district! SoWa Mosaics is a bright and welcoming space featuring mosaics made with homemade tiles of all shapes and sizes. Each student chooses a square board or picture frame as their base. We will spend a few minutes talking about mosaics and our unique process then you’ll get started glueing tiles and creating your own unique mosaic selecting from an abundance of our handmade colorful tiles. During the workshop we’ll be walking around to help guide and encourage your work. For smaller groups we like to sit down and create one with you too! At the end of the workshop, your mosaic will be glued and safe to take home but needs a day to get sturdy and dry completely before you can grout it. Each student goes home with a goodie bag containing grout, gloves and instructions on how to put the finishing touches on the artwork. After or before the workshop we encourage you to walk around and visit the 100+ other artists, galleries and shops here. Sundays are the most active with several other studios open and a vintage market in the basement. On Sundays in May thru October we have food trucks and outdoor markets too! Other things to note No art experience necessary. Intended for adults but appropriate for kids 10+. All ages welcome for birthday parties or private family activities. I can host 20ish people. You have picked a great time to visit Boston! Boston is one of the most walkable cities in America - it’s lovely to explore on foot. We’ll be walking about 3,000 steps/1 mile. We will meet at a coffee shop along the Freedom Trail. Feel free to buy something there while we get acquainted & start our exploration of the people & events of the founding of Boston & the early years of the American Revolution. We will head out on foot to walk a portion of the Freedom Trail. You will see & learn about the Old State House & the Boston Massacre, the Old Corner Bookstore & the Irish Famine Memorial & the Old South Meeting House - where the Tea Party started. Next, we head up School Street to learn about the Old City Hall & visit the site of the first public school in America. We’ll step into the oldest continuously run hotel in America & explore the rich history of this beautiful hotel. Onto King’s Chapel Church & the oldest burial ground in Boston. We will see the brutalist masterpiece- New City Hall & conclude at the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market area. You might want to shop or get a drink or meal at one of the many restaurants & bars at the end of the tour. I will share recommendations for things to do & places to eat. Join me to explore Boston & the Freedom Trail. Boston is a beautiful city - rich in history & stories that I want to share with you!
