Design botanical jewelry with Portland floral artist

Design and create botanical jewelry using foraged Pacific Northwest materials in my floral studio. In this 90-minute workshop, I’ll guide you in transforming natural elements into wearable art, drawing from my decades of experience as a master floral artist. • We’ll start in my studio behind my house, just two blocks from SE Division, with a tour of the garden and workspace. I’ll introduce the mechanics of wearable art and share samples of my botanical creations. • Choose materials from a curated selection of bark, seedpods, dehydrated mushrooms, herbs, succulents, and blossoms. We’ll dive into the design process, and I’ll coach you on structural techniques and creative elements as you work on a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings. • Finish by sharing our creations, and I’ll provide personalized feedback to celebrate your work. This botanical workshop is a wonderful opportunity to spark your creativity and take home a unique piece of art inspired by the Pacific Northwest.

Walk, shop, eat, and drink with me, a journalist and food writer, in the eclectic southeast Portland neighborhood of Kerns, one of the city’s liveliest areas. I’ll show you its history and highlights at my favorite coffee shops, art galleries, landmarks, and vintage shops. • Meet at Heart for introductions and the neighborhood’s best coffee and then stroll to Nationale, an art gallery and bookshop that showcases emerging artists. • I’ll share the stories behind Burnside Street’s landmarks, including the Art Deco Laurelhurst Theater, and answer any Portland-related questions you may have as we wander up 28th Avenue. • Pop into Olo to chat with the designers of locally made perfumes, browse the vintage collection at Goodbye Horses, and discuss what you’ve seen over margaritas and snacks at Güero. I’ll leave you with my personalized tips for dinner and further explorations in the neighborhood and beyond, as well as my handmade zine full of insider tips on Portland.

You’ll discover the power of plants using your olfactory system, while learning the history of working with plant essences and their use in ancient healing and ceremonial ritual practices. • Now it’s your turn! Create your own Pacific Northwest-inspired formula that relaxes your spirit while traveling, in meditation, during stressful times or just when you need to take a moment to breathe and reset. You’ll leave with your own aromatherapy inhaler, a sense of calm, as well as a deeper understanding of plant medicine.

Trek up an urban volcano with a sober travel specialist

Get your heart rate up with fellow nondrinkers and sober-curious folks on this 2.5-hour guided trek up Mount Tabor, Portland’s magnificent (extinct) volcano. Relax and enjoy a non-alcoholic drink at the summit, and connect with other sober adventurers with a love of the outdoors. • We’ll meet at a coffee house to grab a coffee or tea and introduce ourselves. • Next, the group will hike to the top of Mount Tabor. You’ll learn about its history as an extinct volcano and the group will share tips for sober travel. • At the summit, you’ll crack open some local Oregon non-alcoholic products such as Wilderton Aperitivo, Dhos gin-free or For Bitter or For Worse. • After a quiet moment to reflect, you’ll visit the volcanic crater and take in breathtaking views of the city below. • The hike back down will offer time to hang out with new friends and reflect on the day. You’ll leave with new community members, ideas to stay connected to your sobriety during your travels, and a copy of my award-winning zine, Sober Travel Handbook.

Create a Portland-inspired collage with a local artist

Create a unique collage using curated images of the Pacific Northwest while learning techniques I use in my own work. We’ll explore cutting methods, composition, and minimalist design, drawing inspiration from Portland’s iconography and your own experiences in the city. We will be meeting at the beautiful makerspace and shop Makerspace Sellwood in Portland, Oregon. • Begin by looking at my collages and discussing techniques, from selecting source material to layering and composition. Choose from a selection of maps, travel guides, local magazines, and vintage photos to craft a piece that reflects your time in Portland. • Chat about the places you’ve explored, using conversation to inspire image selection. I’ll offer guidance and feedback as you piece together your collage, encouraging a collaborative and engaging creative space. • All materials are provided, along with tea or kombucha to enjoy as we create. We’ll wrap up by sharing our finished work, reflecting on the creative process, and taking home a one-of-a-kind collage that captures your Portland experience.

Portland River Boat Tours

We will take you on a 2 hour scenic boat ride up north or down south on the picturesque Willamette River. Pets are always welcome! Maximum of 6 total passangers. You can bring your own foods, wines, spirits, and coffee! 7:00 am tour. We cruise around the Ross Island natural area and seek out all forms of wild life! On any given tour we see bald eagles, osprey, blue heron, deer, turtles, otters, and beavers! During the fishing season we may even see a sea lions chasing a salmon! Tours starting at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, for these tours we offer our clients a choice in travel direction. We can cruise the river in either direction, north or south! -If we head south, we will see Portland and Lake Oswego’s most beautiful homes, plenty of wildlife such as osprey, bald eagles, river otters, beavers, sea lions, and the Willamette Falls in Oregon City! -If we head north, we will view Portland's 9 unique and historical bridges, nature, the city skyline, and the Port of Portland. From here we will get up close to ocean going ships, drydocks and see the shipping yards from the water. Tours starting at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm are the sunset cruises! On these cruises we see the Portland city bridges, Portland’s historical floating homes, movie props, sunsets over the city, and Oaks Bottom natural area. We have a covered boat. Rain or Shine!

I’ll also teach you how to make brine, pack your jars properly, sterilize equipment, and ensure that your produce is properly sealed. Tours will resume in June 2025. (Note, these are not sleep-overs) Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Sanctuary life and the wildcats we care for. This is a unique opportunity to learn about a true Sanctuary. Because we aren't a zoo, you'll see the animals in a relaxed, peaceful setting, unlike anything you've experienced before. Included in the tour you'll see lions, tigers, cheetahs, bobcats, servals, caracals, hybrid and domestic cats and our farm animal rescues. Tours are limited to four people maximum and two people MINIMUM with no children under the age of fourteen. (That allows us to provide a personal experience without adding stress to the wildcats. You'll hear the heartbreaking stories, meet the animals and see their personalities. *Please note, tours are not available for a single guest, the minimum is two people or tours do not happen. Walking tours run for about two hours. We have golf carts available as needed. Please dress for the weather and no open-toe shoes. Tours must have at least two people and no more than four. There is no contact between guests and animals, but you will have the opportunity to see them up close and personal for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Photos are NOT allowed to be taken at the Sanctuary. Other things to note: Silverton, Oregon is only seven miles away and there are several excellent restaurants to choose from.

Meet downtown and head to the Columbia Gorge to enjoy 3 amazing waterfalls. All of the waterfalls are located in the Columbia Gorge which is about 30 mins outside of Portland. Each of the hikes will be about a mile or less. We will have the opportunity to get as close as you like to the falls and learn about this amazing part of the world. This experience is appropriate for all fitness levels. Other things to note It might be a good idea to bring some shoes with decent traction but it's not absolutely necessary. We will be traveling through the Historic Columbia River Highway, which was completed in 1915 and is now considered a National Historic Landmark. We will see 3 amazing waterfalls all within the Columbia Gorge. We will also stop by the Vista House. -Latourell falls- At 249 feet, it is a .4 mile hike roundtrip. -Bridal Veil falls- At 118 feet, it is a 1.4 mile hike roundtrip. -Multnomah Falls- At 620, is is a .4 miles hike roundtrip.
