Need a break? A straw bale house in the forest is a great place to get away from it all. Located in the forest near South Yuba River outside Nevada City, my home is a great spot to start an epic hike to the river, a peaceful stroll, or to drink tea in front of the fireplace. Down a dirt road, it's secluded but with wonderful neighbors. The closest town is 45 minutes away, and has great organic, farm-to-table restaurants. An ideal spot for someone interested in natural building or homesteading.

A Grass-Roofed Earthen Hobbit Hut

This uniquely constructed cob hut was crafted by sculptor Miguel Elliott of Living Earth Structures. The thick walls provide natural insulation, keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. It was constructed out of Adobe bricks from the property and features a living grass roof transporting you to Middle Earth. We invite you to partake in the spiritual life of The Temple of Isis, home of the Isis Oasis Retreat, by joining us for our daily noon rites or by meditating at our shrines.

Charming cottage/studio apt. overlooking the Pacific! Cottage has a queen size bed and a twin sofa bed pullout. Open space design all in one room except private bathroom. Kitchen, living room and front and back decks. This property also has a house that rents separately or together with the cottage. The house is called "Pacific Gem" and can be found through airbnb. The cottage nightly rate includes a county occupancy tax of 11%. A separate owner Rental Agreement is required.

Our family lives on the property but there are no other neighbors in sight. Relax and recharge in this one of a kind hand-crafted home in the woods.

Come stay at this rustic, unique, hand sculpted cob earth house in the heart of the gold country surrounded by wilderness. The house is magical inside and out, with unique curved walls and ceilings, facing a seasonal pond and home to much wildlife. Sit outside at night under the Milky Way, watching shooting stars and listening to toads in the pond. Please note the bedroom is upstairs, the bathroom is down an external staircase. There is no oven.
