Kleinbasel is the most interesting part of Basel in my opinion. It's certainly not as touristy and pretty as the old town, but it has a good selection of nice individual Clubs, Bars and Restaurants that are not part of big chains, I've made some recommendations of places that I like around town for you. The charming old town of Basel is only 15 minutes away on foot. Even quicker if you take the tram from Riehenring stop, just 2 minutes walk. The Rhine promenade is 5-10 minutes walk away. The bus stop to the train station is right outside the building. The Basel Exhibition Centre (Messe - MuBa, Art Basel, Comic Con, SwissBau etc) and Musical Theater are literally just around the corner from the flat.
