There were some challenges to find the right place. The landlord was pleasant. And a pleasant village. The field was somewhat messy. The apartment was a little messy. But yes, the apartment was able to live comfortably one night.
My breath is taken away. I stand and survey the scene in front of me. What an exotic picture, surely one of the most beautiful places on earth. I have fallen in love with this exquisite land; so full of life, of love and equally wild. My heart burns with a desire to share this incredible and undiscovered experience with you. I want to introduce you to the land and to its people, Northern Sweden and Lapland, a tapestry of stunning landscape, rich Swedish and Sami culture and wonderful wildlife.
Hi, I am Martine Westerlund, when I married well known local Swedish freelance journalist in 2010, I moved to his home village, Kusfors, in Northern Sweden, where his family is 4th generation. I was born in Zambia and raised in Zimbabwe. I had to flee my beloved homeland Zimbabwe because of the political situation, with only £4 in my pocket and a suitcase in my hand. Coming to Sweden has given me a chance to get on my feet again ,this really is the land of opportunity.
Last year I bought a villa because I wanted a place that was affordable for the average family to come and holiday and to enjoy all that this incredible place has to offer.
As a destination the region is the best kept secret ! Yes you probably know it for the winter activities, Northern Lights, Skiing, Ice fishing,Dog Sledding, Driving on Ice but that is just the Icing on the cake. What you might not know is the it is the only region along the Arctic circle where there are hot summers because of the gulf steam, Accessible Arctic ! in summer you can cycle, go for walks in the forest where you might just meet a moose, fish for relaxation ,enjoy the prolific bird life, and the midnight sun in this beautiful lake district and appreciate the Sounds of Silence, close to Europe's last wilderness. The Sami people say that we have 8 seasons and there is something incredible about them all.
My son and daughter in law and my 3 grandchildren from England have recently moved to our village as they love it so much, my daughter in law Chantelle is now helping with the family business also.
We are also very engaged in our little local Railway cafe where we regularly hold cultural events. We have had everything from opera singers, jazz pianists to rock and roll bands , world class artists.
