Hugo is very kind and was always very responsive. He was very helpful and respectful. Unfortunately, there was a lack of hygiene, the cat meowed and scratched the door every morning around 5AM to get food. Additionally, I found blood stains on my bedsheets, and lastly; the pans, plates and glasses were very dirty. If you don’t care about hygiene, then great; this place shouldn’t be a problem for you, and you will love it! If you do, then I would definitely not recommend.
I highly recommend this place. I had a lovely stay and it was definitely a good price deal considering the location. Public transport is also very accessible and the apartment is very quiet to stay in.
Hugo is a great, kind, and responsive host. I stayed here for my first full year of living in New York, and this place quickly felt like home. (It helps that his sweet cat Tiger was around, and I'm definitely a cat person.) I was only able to secure my next living space starting the the first of the new year, and although my stay here ended on December 22nd, Hugo had no problem with my staying until January 4th, seeing as though his next guest wasn't due until the 5th. He was even so kind as to do that for me at no charge. Overall, I found this place to be well-worth the price, being pretty close to the subway and a five-minute walk to my college, CCNY. I'll always remember this as a beautiful transition in my life and be thankful for each of the friendly roommates I was lucky to share it with.
Hugo’s Hideout was Top Notch! Super cool location, Super Comfortable, and Super Clean! I Most Definitely Enjoyed my stay!

I was born and raised in Harlem. Harlem has always been about change and innovation. About every 30 years since the Dutch settled on this section of New York called 'Nieuw Haarlem', there has been a drastic shift. For about 10 years Harlem been going through a second renaissance. The infusion of life that has come from Columbia University's campus expansion, seismic decrease in violent crime, and the explosion of the restaurant and nightlife scene has made this neighborhood THE coveted place following the trends of Hell's Kitchen and Williamsburg. I am grateful I can live in the midst of all these beautiful changes. It's my hope that visitors leave Harlem with a very positive impression of my neighborhood.
