We spent 2 nights in Mala's home. She is a great cook and also a great host. She is very communicative, eager to show her hometown and always happy to explain the local culture. Our personal highlights were the cooking class, including market shopping, and a family visit to a Hindu temple. Dressing up in a traditional Sari was also a lot of fun! It is important to notice that these activities cost extra. Mala's prices were considerably higher than elsewhere on the island, but still ok for us. Two things were not so good: First, the internet connection was very unstable, making it a bit tricky to book the next accommodation. Second, Mala's AirBnB account is a bit outdated and communicating via AirBnB turned out to be impossible. The account is not run by Mala herself, but by one of her children, who doesn't live in the house any more.

Notre séjour avec Mala a été fabuleux. Mala et le reste de la famille a pris soin de nous durant 2 merveilleuses journées. Repas succulents, plusieurs collations pour nous faire découvrir des produits locaux, massage, tour culturel avec souper traditionel à la belle étoile. Le coup de coueur a été l'attention porté à nos enfants et notre bébé de 7 mois. C'est comme si on avait une baby-sitter en tout temps. Les enfants ne voulaient plus partir! Toutes les activités se faisaient avec les enfants de Mala. C'est comme si on était une seule grande famille. Merci Mala pour cet expérience. Nous recommandons vivement!

Mala Homestay was a very good surprise for me. I was scheduled to stay 1 night with this family but the interesting visits and atmosphere in this house convinced me to stay finally 10 days. I will never forget my memories with Mala and their children. I will miss you for sure ! See you...

We had a really good time in Mala's. Be aware that it is not an hotel or a guest house, this is a homestay so you will enjoy living with a sri lankan family : meals, cooking class, market tour... A very good experience we recommand!

Mala was very clear on how to arrive and also offered to pick us up from the bus station. We immediately felt welcomed and loved the homely feel. Got to experience things we would not have other wise, such as a Hindu ceremony where a woman believes she has powers from God and this was so interesting. The food was lovely and we saw a real authentic side to Sri Lanka for example I wore a traditional sari. However, we feel we should make it clear to other/future guests that Mala offers a tour for 5000 rupees which includes a cooking class. However, we were charged another 1500 (750 each) for eating the food made in the class as it was considered lunch, which Mala charges for as well as dinner. Because of this we felt it was overpriced.
