Maria's and Steve's place is a peaceful haven on the Hilo side of the big island. Located in the middle of a stretch of amazing beach parks, you can't beat the location to experience the true Hilo beach experience. The home was clean and well appointed, and lived bigger than the photos showed. Beds are on the smaller side for couples, especially if anyone is tall, but certainly workable. Both Maria and Steve were a joy to interact with, generous with their stories and heart (and fresh eggs!). I highly recommend and will happily request a stay there in the future!

The property is so peaceful, lush and secluded. If you are looking for a brand new build or high-end resort this place would not be for you. If you're looking to be in a local neighborhood and OK with an older well cared for property this is the spot for you. We loved the ripe bananas, learning about the onsite vegetation as well as interacting with the furry friends. We also enjoyed the beaches being so close by. The hosts were very gracious about sharing their knowledge about local recommendations. We were also SO grateful that they could accommodate check in a day early when we experienced a medical emergency. For the first time checking out of a place I felt sad to leave this Airbnb and Hilo. Nicest most caring hosts ever & one of my favorite stays to date, it's something you have to experience!

I used to live in Hilo and this was like returning home. Steve and Maria live in an area with older homes on large lots. It's very lush and offers a great sense of privacy. Steve met us as we arrived, gave us the lowdown, and offered us bananas from their tree. The house is just as described. There are fans, windows, and doors in every room which we could adjust for the weather. The beds are super comfortable. We especially loved the goats, pig, and hearing sweet chicken clucks. And yes, there are coqui frogs---it's Hawaii! Hilo's most beautiful ocean parks are a 10-minute walk; we spent a whole day just exploring the local tide pools and snorkeling/swimming holes. Neighbors in the area are friendly and watch out for each other. We felt very safe walking around. Mahalo for sharing your space with us!

Place was great! My kids loved the local animals on property and the fresh breeze off the near by ocean was fantastic! Would recommend!!!
