Set deep amongst the tranquil, organically farmed vineyards and olive groves of the slopes of wooded Montalbano, the seventeenth century farmhouse of Fattoria Castellina has magnificent views over the Arno valley and the hills and mountains of Italian Renaissance landscapes. All the most famous places in Tuscany, such as Chianti, San Gimignano, Siena, Lucca, etc., can be reached within one hour drive. You may stroll around the peaceful estate, which produces fine wines, varietal extravirgin olive oil and honeydew variety honey. You may also walk or drive up the hill to the nearby village which has a grocery shop with attached coffee bar and family run trattoria. Then relax under olive and fruit trees by the pool, on the edge of the vineyard, enjoying the splendid views. A gentle slope leads up from the swimmingpool to a perfect example of a Tuscan farmhouse, which contains eight comfortable, good quality apartments carefully modernised without diminishing their original charm. Antique stone mantlepieces with brick and stone fireplaces form the centrepiece of the attractive living areas, which have beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and original stone walls. The traditional Tuscan furnishings, the wrought iron and the terracottas were specifically commissioned from local craftsmen. Next to the farmhouse, a beautiful barn now forms a pair of elegant two-bedroom split level apartments. Guests can buy the local organically farmed produce from a selection to be found in each apartment. Visits to the wine or olive oil making facilities can be arranged. There are several typical Tuscan restaurants within a few minutes drive.
