The host Sian was very friendly and gave instructions prior to arrival. The cabin had fantastic views and was very peaceful. Sian and her family were very friendly and took us for a wonderful tour of her off grid garden.
This is truly an offgrid experience. Sian is very knowledgeable with her experience in setting this up since 2011, so it is a great opportunity to stay for a few days, experience it, and ask questions. The cabin has view that is even better in person than what is in the photos - reading a book in a hammock with the sounds of the nearby hummingbirds and the distant waves is simply amazing. Do be aware that there will be insects as it is a very remote and near-wild location. Bug killing spray was provided and there is a mosquito net and all of my nights were peaceful with no interruptions. If you are concerned just spray and kill the first night and they will mostly avoid the inside of the cabin for the rest of the stay. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. Sian is very busy with the property and children but was still able to take the time to show me around and answer questions.
We loved the time we spent at Eden Heights close to Castle Bruce. The cabin is spacious with a large terrace overlooking the Atlantic - a wonderful view to wake up to each morning, and a great view of the stars at night. Siân was a great host and we enjoyed a tour of her organic garden… So blessed to have so many fruits to choose from - papaya, banana, guava, mango, pineapple. It was lovely to hear all the natural sounds of the forest and special to see, up close, hummingbirds by day and fireflies by night. A truly refreshing break!
Le cottage est spacieux, lumineux et très simple, avec un lit et une table, c'est juste ce qu'il faut. La cuisine est sur la véranda. Hamac et vue spectaculaire. Quelques améliorations sont encore à apporter à l'installation qui alimente le cottage avec l'eau de la rivière. La nature tout autour, le grand jardin de Sian, herbes aromatiques et arbres fruitiers nombreux. L'océan est à 20-30 min à pied. L'embouchure de la rivière Belle Fille offre un vaste espace protégé pour nager dans une eau calme, au son des rouleaux de l'Atlantique. Magnifique région. Sian est une hôte formidable et sympathique, à l'écoute, réactive, bonne cuisinière, belle éthique de vie, elle partage volontiers sa connaissance des plantes pendant une visite de son jardin. Le séjour à Eden Heigh m'a enchantée. Merci.
We spent one week in the bungalow on the property of Sian. Very beautiful experience. The place is in the middle of nowhere, with a view of the sea. Sian, her son, her dogs, her cats, and her friends are very nice and we spent very good moments together. Do not hesitate to take the breakfasts or the dinners at Sian, who cooks outstandingly well. If you like the Nature, the adventure, to meet different people, go at once to Sian !

Hi, I’m Sian (pronounced ‘Shaan’). I live with my 2 children on the mountainside above the small, friendly village of Castle Bruce on the central east coast of Dominica, West Indies. I have been living in Dominica since 2011 and the beauty and wilderness of the island still takes my breath away... Dominica is a destination unlike any other, unspoiled and brimming with adventures waiting to be stumbled upon. I love to see people as enchanted by it as I am. I am living my dream and loving it. I care passionately for the natural environment and healthy living in harmony with the Earth and I also love to discover different cultures, customs and cuisines, but don't travel much at the moment… soon :-) I am responding to a need and desire for communal living, establishing an educational homesteading community where we raise our children, grow organic food and research and develop solutions to modern problems, such as natural building, land regeneration, home-schooling and material-repurposing. We have 2 dogs, a cat and some farm animals, plus divine friendship with unlimited lizards, birds, parrots and crabs :-) Since rebuilding after hurricane Maria, I have 1 cabin available to rent to travellers looking for a relaxing, low-impact space in the wilderness where you can disconnect and power-down for a while. Slow down and reconnect with nature, hike along beautiful mountain trails through tropical forests to crater lakes, active fumeroles and crystal waterfalls, observe zandoli lizards scurrying up trees or squawking parrots flapping overhead and be mesmerised by spectacular moon rises over the ocean. Our vibe is more like a home-stay than a resort, somewhere you can experience simple rustic living in harmony with nature. Immerse yourself and witness the natural world unfolding around your private cabin. Feel welcomed in the sacred air of the garden and communal areas, which offer fruit, flowers, herbs, colour and life at every turn. My simple motto for life, 'Give what you can, receive what you need'.
