As soon as you turn off the road into PFS you are transported to another time, a shady retreat, a slower pace. The bright red Swedish style cottages with white trim are so retro and beyond charming, outfitted minimally to keep things simple - only what you need, nothing you don’t. Even with the other cottages in relatively close proximity, it felt pretty private. Our cottage was the perfect size for my little family of 3 (and note my hubby is around 6’7” and comfortably cleared all ceilings/doors!). Our toddler loved using the swing set / jungle gym on the property, especially when a family of turkeys decided to join us! Our days were packed with typical Cape Cod activities and evenings were spent out on the screened in porch playing cards, dominoes and board games. Beaches were very close and Ridgevale’s calm tide pool was especially great for our little one. Grocery and package stores close by. Could barely fit all our thrift store finds into the car when it was time to go. The owner John is a hoot, his parents built the place with love and he continues maintaining it as such, a couple weeks later our kiddo still talks about the golf cart ride he kindly took her on, and we connected with a wonderful neighbor who has been staying there for years who lent us items we forgot. PFS is not only a very magical place but an incredible deal, so glad I found it and we truly hope to return every year and make it a family tradition!!
My husband and I had a great time staying at John’s place. It’s nice, clean and convenient. John is a nice host and easy to communicate with. He told us some local events to go to and we had fun there. We will definitely want to go back. Thanks John for hosting us!
We had great time at the cottage. It is rustic but very clean and charming. It also feels much more spacious than the numbers would suggest - our family of four had more than enough space. Pictures don't do justice to the screen terrace - it certainly was the most popular room with our family. We'll be coming back

Owner/Operator of Pleasant Forest Shores (a classic cottage colony in Swedish style) but I spend the winter in FL and summer here on premises on Cape Cod. I'm a "retired" mainframe COBOL programmer/analyst who's highly involved in Town of Chatham by running the "Chat-M-Room on Cape Cod" dedicated to its activities and history and attending town government meetings. So...what makes my cottages unique? It's run by a second-generation owner who has been involved with them for all his life...also, they are inspected and licensed by Town of Chatham so you have that assurance as well but without the high costs typical of other rentals in town because I believe that regular folks should be able to vacation here in Chatham and not just those with lots of money! You're not just a customer here, but rather a acquaintance or friend who's visiting and helping with expenses so I thus also expect you to treat my cottages as you would if you were staying at your best friend's home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTICE: In a typical season, I only have openings for about 6-8 new customers as I have about a 90% repeat rate and most of those openings are before mid-July or after mid-August. But please contact me to see if I've got room for YOU, ok? Until all the prior customers are scheduled/booked OFF-line, the calendars here will show many weeks that are most likely UNAVAILABLE because I just don't have time to constantly update them. RESERVATIONS: Please do NOT submit an actual booking Request until we've interacted about unit/date for you via Inquiry ("Contact Host") messages to avoid issues for both of us! An INITIAL contact made as a Request will almost guarantee that it will be DECLINED because of the limits/restrictions that it imposes on me. STATUS: As of 09/30/22, the season is now over and will begin scheduling for 2023 around February 20 or a few days after. Existing customers are booked off line first so if interested, send INQUIRY via white Contact Host button any time after February 1 to get on waiting list. RATES: A quirk of this site is that pro-rated portion of cleaning fee is added to daily rate so when you see rate change/increase, it's often due to this (and additional guests above 2 as well) so don't be confused. TAXES: Any rental after Jan 1, 2023 will be subject to the MA STR tax of 14.45% --and-- it applies to rent, cleaning and booking fees!
