Welcome to my historic shotgun/railroad home in Treme! Centrally located less than a mile from the French Quarter. This is a 2 br/1bth with king bed, queen bed, and a living room w/twin trundle which opens up into a king should you prefer. This is a quick 5 minute ride/15-20minute walk into the French Quarter. This is a shotgun layout (one room leads to the next so the middle bedroom is between the front room and living room), with a back and front door code entrance. You can use separate entrances if you don’t want to walk through each other’s space. It was a blighted historic home built in the 1860s which I have been renovating slowly so it has it's quirks and gaps. The house has all the great features of an old New Orleans shotgun: high ceilings, wood floors, handmade nails and creaky everything. 😂 I get docked on reviews in the “cleanliness” section. This home is 160 years old, filled with antique treasures and is very difficult to upkeep, despite thoroughly cleaning after every guest. If you’re looking for a modern home, this is not the place for you. If you adore old world charm, weird antiquities and possible haunting, you will fall in love. 👻 I charge zero cleaning fee (saving you $100+) and appreciate some forgiveness on your end for imperfections. My sister and I do all the work ourselves to keep guest costs down as local service fees have risen exponentially for guests in the last year. The other side of the house is occasionally occupied by visiting photographers doing internship or teaching classes with my non-profit, the New Orleans Photo Alliance. When the house isn't booked I enjoy using front room/parlor as a photo studio or for teaching students about portraiture. The house is great for a photo shoot if you’re interested in that! The shower is a clawfoot tub. While it may not be the height of luxury, your home will be filled with unique oddities, New Orleans history, an abundance of books and endless charm!
To say Robin was an amazing host would be an understatement. This is what all Airbnbs should be like! The house itself was so charming and lovely. We had a great stay and will be back again for sure!
We enjoyed our stay! Awesome accommodations and super friendly hosts! Would definitely rebook if I stayed in NOLA Again!
My partner and I enjoyed our stay here immensely! Robin was extremely friendly, communicative, accommodating, and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. The location was perfect as we were able to enjoy the beautiful walk down to the Fair Grounds for Jazz Fest, or the other way to the top of the French Quarter, while still having a quiet place away from the tourist bustle when we came home. There was a great little coffee shop around the corner to start our mornings off right. While the place was an older, historic house we were extremely comfortable with plenty of A/C and hot water. The kitchen had everything you could need. The private entrance and small backyard area was a plus as well. The listing was very accurate so make sure to read it completely before you book! We will definitely be staying here again when we come back.
This was a perfect place for our visit. We had 3 people and plenty of room. The house and neighborhood has a very local feel and an easy walk to several coffee shops (I am a coffee snob and they were *okay*, not delicious, but caffeine charged!) My friend was worried that the neighborhood was a little gritty but we only had pleasant interactions with locals and I felt very safe. The hot water is really hot- be careful, but also know there is plenty of of it it you like long showers or hot baths. As a side note, the three of us consistently had very vivid dreams in the house. Not bad dreams, just vivid. No explanations or theories, just seemed notable. And the host was extremely responsive. More than average. The house is historic the furnishings were eclectic and joyful. They keep it very clean but leaving it tidy when you leave seems paramount because there are so many nooks and crannies for them to attend to. I would stay again.
It was such a treat to stay at this historic home in the Treme area of New Orleans. Our group of a three each got our bedroom and loved talking into the night inside the quaint kitchen. True to the details in the listing it has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The location couldn't have been more perfect - nestled in a vibrant neighborhood close to iconic landmarks like the French Quarter and Jackson Square yet still offers a peaceful quiet retreat after a day of exploring. It felt very safe and secure - we walked everywhere and never encountered any issues. We can’t say enough great things about the host team Robin and Lisa. Honestly the most accommodating and considerate hosts. They were incredibly responsive and provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. It truly felt like staying at a friend's place. This is the perfect home base for your stay. 100% staying here again in the future and highly recommend.
There is so much history in this neighborhood--much of which I'm trying to learn myself. I moved here in January 2013 after living in another part of Treme and then the French Quarter. My neighbors have been very welcoming and the street is generally very quiet. Since Katrina there remain empty houses and blight and this neighborhood has been flipping quickly in the last 8 years.
Guest comfort levels with my neighborhood and city vary. New Orleans is condensed and crime generally opportunistic, generally petty theft/window smashing. Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle or carry items of value on your person.
Most people love this neighborhood and feel very comfortable here and as safe as anywhere else in NOLA but if you haven't spent much time traveling outside of suburbia you may feel very uncomfortable anywhere but the lower French Quarter or Garden District areas. Read up on the history of the Treme neighborhood, it is fascinating. Or watch the acclaimed series, Treme on HBO!
My streets is all homeowners and a church who owns half the block and people watch out for each other. Immediate points of interest are the Shrine of St Anne on Ursulines, the New Orleans African American Museum on Governor Nicholls, Armstrong Park, Willie Maes Scotch House, Dooky Chase's Restaurant, backstreet cultural museum.
There is a bus on Esplanade 3 blocks away that runs to the French Quarter and Bayou St John.

Hey! After a few years keeping busy with photography, guiding and ski patrol in Tahoe with New Orleans as home base, I finally settled on the next adventure--fixing up a 19th century home. I've always enjoyed hosting couchsurfers and am excited to welcome Airbnbers to Treme! My favorite part of traveling is getting to know people their stories. Through Airbnb I enjoy meeting folks and helping travelers experience New Orleans more authentically! I've couchsurfed and traveled in Australia, Costa Rica, Ireland, England, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, China, Mongolia, and all over the U.S. (most recently, Alaska). I love New Orleans and enjoy the fact that I can walk to a variety of live music and delicious cuisine. But I miss the mountains and beaches of California where I've worked as an outdoor guide for five years. I have my Wilderness EMT certification which is helpful for winters ski patrolling in North Lake Tahoe. I keep my place clean, am respectful, straight-forward but open-minded... Iove food, stories, people, and consider experiences as the most important investments toward a fulfilling life. Hope to meet you!
