Horsehill Cottage is located in its own magical woodland setting on the edge of the pretty village of Stoke Abbot near Beaminster and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests. Horsehill Cottage enjoys a secluded setting entirely off the road network and is ideal for families or couples looking for peace and quiet in a magical setting. There are 4 acres of private garden and nature reserve, and a further 3 acres of woodland, through which runs the Jubilee Trail footpath. The cottage has been carefully renovated using premium materials throughout such as oak, lime plaster, granite and limestone. A choice of wood burning stoves or underfloor heating means this cottage is cosy at any time of the year. A stream flows through the grounds where you will also find an oak bridge and a disused 19th Century Flax mill. Though secluded the cottage is strategically placed: Pub in Stoke Abbott ¼ mile Beaminster and shops 1½ miles Bridport and coast 6 miles Additional Information Travel cot and high chair available on request. A stairgate is attached to the bottom of the stairs. The range cooker is a fully functioning burning Aga which needs quite a lot of attention to keep running. Plenty of seasoned firewood is available. Two well behaved dogs are welcome (small additional charge). Please be aware this is a rural, remote property with a river running through and around the (partly enclosed) garden. Please supervise children at all times. *Please note that internet access is offered at this property for recreational purposes only and is not meant for business use or streaming. Beautiful, warm and homely cottage within private and extensive gardens which the children loved exploring! Location was great with Beaminster nearby for shops, cafes and restaurants. Bridport and other beaches/ coastal walks within 20-30mins. Was lovely to come home to a open plan living room and warm underfloor heating in the kitchen. Large dining table and plenty of crockery meant it was easy to feed family and impromptu dinner guests. Only downside for us was the size of the fridge. The large fridge had broken before our arrival, so we only had a very small one to use and for the size of our family it meant we couldn’t do a big shop (even trickier over bank holiday weekend) and what food we could fit in there got ruined as salad and fruit froze from being packed up to the edges of the fridge. Disappointed that Dorset Hideaways nor the owner of the property didn’t have the foresight to try to remedy the situation before our arrival.
Had a great week. Secluded location and very large, wild garden was great for children and dogs. Very comfortable cottage, with well equipped kitchen. Would definitely return.
The cottage itself was great. Lovely secluded location yet close enough to a little village and local town. The cottage was clean, welcoming and well equipped with everything you might need. Unfortunately the garden had not been maintained prior to our arrival with much of the land so overgrown it was unusable. A gardener did come during our stay and clear some of it which helped.
A great hideaway. Quite, lots of space there is even a part at the back with a fence so you can leave the back door open for the dogs The number of walks around the house is amazing.

There is a footpath through the woodland which also gives access to a large variety of local footpaths, with Lewesdon, Waddon Hill, Roman Fort and the Brit Valley to explore. The market town of Bridport is seven miles away with its twice weekly markets, restaurants, pubs, supermarkets and antique shops. Bridport is also the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site and well worth exploring. The manor house and gardens of Mapperton are just over four miles away from the cottage and includes the Coach House Cafe and a regular events calendar. The Broadwindsor Craft and Design Centre is situated just two miles away and includes opportunities for shopping, eating, galleries and workshops. Within an easy drive away are the coastal resorts of West Bay, Eype, Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens, Abbotsbury Children's Farm and Abbotsbury Swannery and popular attractions just a 30 minute drive away. The county town of Dorchester with its Thomas Hardy heritage and fine museums is always worth a day out and only 20 miles away. The Georgian fronted sandy beach at Weymouth is one of the most popular bays for bathing on the Dorset coast, and a drive along the B3157 coast road is a special experience.
