What a wonderful place to stay! Great location for exploring, short walk to the beautiful Loch, and such special hospitality. Carole and Kevin are warm, friendly and fun! Their beginners guide to hurling ... whilst we watched a match on TV ... was fab! Learnt so much about Ireland and it's history from them - made our visit. We'll be back!
Staying at the Gamekeeper’s Cottage is an experience to remember and cherish—and it is unlike most other experiences you’ll have at other places, and I mean that in the best possible way. Kevin and Carole were so friendly, and did everything possible to make us feel welcome and at home on their property. Our daughter, who is 16 months old, immediately got out of the car and was greeted by the dogs (“Rosie and Sally”) and she couldn’t have been happier. For the next few days, they were the best of friends. Our daughter also took great delight in beginning and ending her days by feeding apples to the donkeys through the cottage window. She loved every minute of her time at the Gamekeeper’s Cottage. Carole and Kevin were so kind to provide thoughtful recommendations to us, and truly, to make us feel as though we were 100% welcome at their home. Staying with them was a genuine and rare experience, and I am so thankful for it.
Absolutely beautiful location and comfortable home. Carole and Kevin were so welcoming and made us feel at home immediately, they let the kids have freedom to play safely and gave us a list of all the local amenities and attractions. Gorgeous couple to chat too and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you
We had a lovely, relaxing few days here. Carole and Kevin gave us a really warm welcome and were on hand to answer any questions and give any help they could. Lots of helpful local advice. I'd really recommend this for anyone who wants a cosy, relaxing getaway.
What an absolute hidden gem in a part of the the country that is often overlooked for the tourism of the nearby Wild Atlantic Way. I'm Irish and my advice to my foreign brothers and sisters who find themselves in our homeland is to make the detour here and you won't be disappointed. The villages and shores of Lough Derg are wrapped in history, charm and friendliness and largely untouched by mass tourism. Carole and Kevin's property oozes character and olde world charm and their personal touch has been to add a mix of eclecticness and exquisiteness. You'll never want to leave. As for Carole and Kevin themselves. They are warm, friendly, inviting who welcomed us into their lives and home for the weekend. We felt like we were part of their family who were just visiting them for the weekend. Special shout out to the 3 dogs who had us smiling and laughing all weekend. It's because of hosts like Kevin and Carole that I will continue to use AirBnB over commercial hotels. A real insight into the Irish way of life that you just won't find in the Irish towns and cities.
We are in a unique setting in "hidden" Ireland with many visually stunning lanscapes and interactive activities only a quick drive away. Some of these include: Holy Island, East Clare Heritage Center, Mountshannon Sea Eagles, Kayaking, Lough Derg Lake Tours, Brian Boru monument, East Clare Way hiking trail, The Bohatch Dolman, Pallas Castle, Portumna Workhouse and just a bit farther off the beaten track you can find the Burren Perfumery which is only a stone's throw from the Cliffs of Moher.
Renting a car for your visit is advised, however if needed, many busses come to and from Scarriff, Portumna and Bird Hill. We also have a local minibus company for hire that would be available for day trips, airport pickups and tours.
