Gary's place was well worth the affordable price. Clean, quiet, comfortable bed, if spartan. Perfect for one. If I return to Memphis, I'd likely stay with Gary again. The neighbourhood seemed safe. I travel mostly by public transit. The 50 and the 01 bus run Poplar Street a few blocks away. the 50 is a little sketchy as it runs through some challenged neighbourhoods. I felt that the 01, which ultimately goes down Union Street to the downtown areas, was more comfortable. I did have trouble discovering the exact spot to pick it up. You can buy an all day pass from the bus driver for $2. Best deal in Memphis. There's a fantastic breakfast house, Brother Juniper, about 30 minutes walk through the neighbourhood. Well worth the walk if you like a cut above diner food. Kooky Canuck had great blackened catfish and came with nice coleslaw and crazy good stroganoff sides. "Locals" special of the day is cheap and tasty. Ben Yays had great beingets!

It is refreshing to see such an affordable and comfortable place still on Airbnb. This stay is truly everything it is described to be. It was perfect to make a stop on a long road trip. I would stay again anytime I needed to. The host was also very attentive. Lastly, this stay is in an upper-middle class neighborhood. The kind of neighborhood where people take their dogs for walks and go for runs in the morning. I was not once scared about my safety as a solo-female traveler. PROS: - You don’t have to worry about your phone charger not reaching the bed. - There is no worry about the morning sun waking you up. - You can turn the light off without getting out of bed. CONS: -N/A
