This was my second long term stay at Mark's dreamy country cottage. I call this perfect meditative space my "jungle oasis". The beautiful views of this rural setting are stunning! Miles from the hustle and bustle of city life it truly is a space that time forgot. Mark is incredibly kind always available next door making sure our needs were met. He's not just a host but has become a friend to my small family consisting me and my dog. I can't wait to return!
I almost hesitate to leave another heartfelt positive review because the place has become so popular, I could only get it for one month this winter. This was my sixth visit, this time all the way from Vancouver, BC. Being out in the countryside surrounded by rolling 'horse country' pastureland, complete with cows and horses just across the fence, is my little bit of heaven. There is nothing fancy about the place, but it is clean, comfortable and furnished with everything I needed for making most of my meals. Mark brought over an FM radio when I mentioned how much I love the local radio station, 96.5, so I could listen 'at home' as well as in the car. The screened porch is a pleasure, and the sunsets, the starlight, and the birdsong add to the magic. Thank you, Mark, for another soul-restoring stay.
Three wonderful months at a peaceful, quiet, safe country cottage with beautiful view. The host, Mark, was the best! Lots of local info provided. This is a special area of Old Florida, so much beauty so see: many natural springs within 1-2 hour drive, state parks, hiking and water sports, Cedar Key, and more. Gainesville is a university town, lots of cultural activities, pubs etc. Ocala, 40 minutes south, is the "Horse Capital of the World". Beautiful horse farms along country roads, the World Equestrian Center, the public is welcome to watch first class stadium horse jumping and dressage competition. Afterwards have a drink/eat at the awesome Yellow Pony Pub. And within 5-10 minutes drive are the very special Old Florida historic towns of McIntosh and Micanopy. McIntosh streets are lined with huge, old live oaks, draped in Spanish moss, Micanopy has cute shops and restaurants. I loved a mimosa on the porch of an old home converted to a restaurant, with live music. Thanks Mark!

I did a lot of adventure travel to foreign countries in the 1980s from trekking in Nepal and Tibet to visiting China in 1983, India, Burma, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, PI, Viet Nam, and Central America, and enjoy experiencing different cultures and meeting new people. A native Floridian with family roots going back to the 1880s and a long time resident of the area, I can offer insights about the local area that you wont find in a stay in a motel or theme park. As your host I will give you complete privacy if you wish but will be always responsive to any of your needs or requests.
