Our family came to this house after we spent a week in Italy at Borgo Bernardini (Cappannori, Tuscany), for which I also wrote a review. I mention it only because I thought that place was fantastic, but I had even a better overall experience at Casa Guillola. To get to CG, you drive 2.5 hours north from Barcelona. The house is ten minutes from Cadaques, a charming Catalan town of white washed walls and narrow, winding streets. It is filled with interesting shops and delicious restaurants. There are actual people who live there. The tourists we met there (no hordes like in Italy) were all from Spain and France. Although only ten minutes from Cadaques, the house feels remote (in a great way). Adjacent to a national park, it overlooks a beautiful cove. The grounds are spectacular: beautiful terraced gardens, a lovely large pool, and vegetable gardens and olive trees. The house, the views from the rooms and the many terraces are spectacular. An architectural gem. The furnishings and art work are first class. There is a small shed by the entrance to the pool with a standing paddle board, two kayaks, water shoes and snorkeling gear. But perhaps the best asset of the house is Daniel, the house manager/chef who prepared extraordinarily tasty meals for us (simple preparations with fresh fish he bought from local fisherman). He also arranged our dinner reservations, airport transfers and a delightful boating excursion. I cannot recommend this property and Daniel highly enough!!

I booked the house for my 30th birthday along with my friends and it couldn’t have been better, the location, the decoration, how isolated yet close to the village the house is. I would love to be back anytime.
