We booked the RGL last minute after realizing you need an international drivers license to rent a car in Japan. This lodge had daily transportation to the Rusutsu Resort only 7 minutes down the road. What we liked: stayed in one of the private rooms with toilets across the hall. I haven’t done common shared spaces since I was younger. But it worked out great. There is a real fun sense of community. Facilities were very clean and maintained. Shower rooms were great. Good water pressure with plenty of hot water and private stalls. There is a drying room for gear which works so well after coming off the slopes. There is a simple kitchen area and hibachi style restaurant on premise. 24 hour Lawson is 150 meters away. Best feature was a wood burning sauna tent you can rent. Absolutely heaven after snowboarding all day. Fresh coffee /tea in the morning rather than freeze dried would be nice. The staff is so friendly & accommodating. Owners put a lot of thought into the design.

A good place to stay if you’re planning on going to Rusutsu resort. There is also a free shuttle that is very convenient.

We enjoyed staying here. It was the only place available and we are grateful. The shuttle was on time and great and easy to schedule the day before. The food was nice. The communal toilets, were clean and conveniently located directly across the hall from our rooms. Thank you!

Nice to star at Grand Cabin. It is a group style hostel which is a unique experience. Our room was quieter since we were on the second floor. Being next to the bathrooms or common areas would be noisy. Shuttles run on the hour in the morning from 8-10am to get to the mountain, but then only at 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm in the evening. The spacing is a little tough if you want to get dinner on the mountain resort because most places open at 5 or 5:30pm which doesn't give you enough time to make the 6pm shuttle and it's too much time t wait around for the 8pm shuttle. The staff is all very nice. The restaurant inside the Cabin is nice but expensive, so we ate at Lawson. Would stay here again.
