The Firefly Cabin is only a 10-15 minute drive into the city of Blue Ridge and historic McCaysville/ Copperhill (TN), despite the secluded feel of the property. Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge area, there is something for every lover of adventure and the out-of-doors (many of these activities listed and more have more information that can be found in a binder in the cabin) Some of the major attractions that are just a short drive from the cabin (there are NUMEROUS guided outfits to book with or rental equipment available for all of the listed activities; for those who prefer to embark upon their own adventure there are countless access points) : Whitewater rafting; The Ocoee River (home of the 96 Olympic Games whitewater rafting course). Tubing/ Canoeing/ Kayaking; closer to lake Blue Ridge the Toccoa River is more tranquil and relaxing. Hiking/ biking; major trail systems include; Aska Adventure Area, Benton-MacKaye Trail and Appalachian Trail however there are too many to mention. Fishing; Trout fishing is some of the best in the area and rivals that of anywhere in the country! There are opportunities for fisherman of all skill levels ranging from easy to catch and overly-abundant stocked trout to wild trophy brown and rainbow trout on big rivers, to challenging wild brook trout in very technical small mountain streams (work on your bow and arrow casting!!!). There are guided trips to suit anyone's needs, and more public water than one can expect to fish in a lifetime. Fly shops have their finger on the pulse of fishing, and are happy to provide insight (any purchase from the shops encourages the guides to talk and their advice is invaluable!!!) on tackle, current hatches, fly patterns, flow rates and locations to fish. Popular trout stream with public access in the area; Toccoa River, Noontootla Creek, Rock Creek, Cooper Creek, Soquee River and Duke's Creek (Duke's is about an hour drive and is a heavily managed stream, by the state of Georgia that requires a reservation and a small fee to fish, but the quality of the fish make this WELL worth the travel and fee There are numerous opportunities for warm water fisherman as well including Lake Blue Ridge (best known for bass fishing) and Lake Nottely (best known as a trophy striped bass fishery). There are many family friendly activities in the area for children and adults of all ages including: Project Chimps (a chimp sanctuary, that is funded by donations, that is surrounded by hiking trails and team-work obstacles), zip lining, horseback riding, rope courses, gem mining, train tours among many more.
There is a short (less than 1 mile) one lane road that takes you to this relaxing riverside retreat. The road can be a little bumpy at times, giving you that remote, rural feel. The driveway is steep but levels out to a parking area large enough for 2 large vehicles or 3 small vehicles. All wheel drive is recommended but not required. Vehicles with low ground clearance will have a difficult time in the entire general area (not just getting to this property) please keep this in mind. There is also a 23 step stairway that separates the parking area from the cabin. These stairs are steep, if you have difficulty walking up and down stairs the Firefly cabin may not be a good fit for you. There are smaller flights to reach the backyard from the deck.
