Nestled in picturesque Bugle Ranges, Trenance House is an historic rural homestead offering a unique opportunity to relax and enjoy the serenity of the Adelaide Hills from this one-of-a-kind residence. Built in the early 1900’s, it stands as one of the most distinguished dwellings in the region. Once home to a well known South Australian icon, it is a heritage listed local landmark and a fine representation of early 20th century design and construction. The 150 acre property is bordered with tall pine and gum trees that open into an expanse of lush lawns, rolling hills, an established forest plantation, a lake, and several smaller waterholes scattered throughout the remaining bushland setting. There are kangaroos and koalas and an array of native birdlife that you can find as you explore the property. We also have a number of retired racehorses who are happily living out their retirement in the tree filled pastures, along with a few sheep who are the official groundskeepers. All of the trees and plants and rocks and animals have a story to tell and their presence is a big part of what makes this place so special. Connecting with nature and building relationships with our rescue animals is healing for the soul. During your stay we hope you get the chance to take in the medicine that nature offers. Wake up to the sound of the morning birds song. Wander through the forest and see the butterflies dancing on the breeze. Pack a picnic lunch and set up a spot near a rocky outcrop on the hillside, or in the valley below under the weeping willow tree. Make friends with a curious cow at the bank of a waterhole. Watch the sun set over the lake as the kangaroos make their way across the landscape. After the sun goes down, pull up a seat around the fire pit for some stargazing. Without streetlights and buildings to obstruct your view, the night sky can be breathtaking. Guest accomodation is available in a private wing within the main residence. There is a separate entry for self check-in, and ample parking available. The guest suite features 2 spacious bedrooms with windows overlooking the garden, block-out blinds and curtains, a comfortable queen sized bed with memory foam mattress to ensure a restful nights sleep. There is an open fireplace in one of the bedrooms & built in closet in each. The bedrooms have their own private ensuite bathroom containing a toilet, shower, vanity and a deep spa bathtub. You will also have access to the ballroom. A grand, light filled space to relax in. The layout of the ballroom incorporates a dining area and kitchenette facilities, with basic breakfast provisions, plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses, mugs etc provided. As well as a small convection oven, bar fridge, a kettle and Nesspresso coffee machine. This dining area then opens out to the main ballroom, with chandeliers, parquetry flooring and a gigantic open fireplace. The space has hosted private performances by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, yoga classes and art classes, and it lends itself well to whatever atmosphere you would like to create. Watch a movie or stream music on the wall mounted smart tv. Listen to your favourite music on the surround sound stereo system and enjoy a glass of wine by the open fire. We can also arrange a platter of nibbles and a nice bottle of wine for a small extra charge, and will stock up the firewood and light the fire for you by prior arrangement. For those who might have an interest in the historical aspect of the property, you may like to see some of the other interesting buildings on the property, which include a semi-constructed two story building that was to be the local museum, as well as the underground nuclear fallout bunker- one of only two such buildings recorded in the state. Built in the early 1980s, it was designed to sustain living underneath the ground for a long period of time. A very interesting feature that you will want to see for yourself. The outdoor entertaining areas and spaces are shared spaces where you might want to take the opportunity to get to know your hosts and learn more about the history of the property. We love meeting new people and are happy to share a coffee and a chat on the patio or give you a tour and show you around the place.
