Art and artisans should not be overlooked in this tremendous Riviera Nayarit town. On your tour throughout the streets of Sayulita Mexico you will find various art galleries and Mexican handicraft shops. Find a souvenir for your return home including beaded costume jewelry, silk rebozo shawls, wool garments, wicker baskets, clay sculptures, and much more. In short, Sayulita Nayarit offers a wonderful sampling of the greatest handicrafts produced in Mexico. End your day having a nice walk along the Pacific Ocean shoreline, as you admire the intrepid surfers awaiting their next big wave.
DINING:
Along the cobblestone streets of Sayulita you will find small businesses and cafes selling delicious traditional dishes. There are many bakeries offering a wide variety of fresh-baked breads that can be enjoyed with an iced tea or a delicious cup of coffee. For something more upscale, there are a number of elegant Sayulita restaurants set along the beach, where you can take pleasure in a romantic candlelit dinner. Romance is another essential ingredient of Sayulita Mexico. This is an ideal destination for newlyweds and couples who wish to celebrate their nuptials with the breathtaking beauty of the Pacific Ocean in the background.
SURFING:
Just 33-km northwest of Nuevo Vallarta lies Sayulita Nayarit. When dusk falls on the beaches of Sayulita, you will see silhouettes skim across the water like floating spirits. Watch bodies dive and emerge, facing the sunset while awaiting the next perfect wave. Each evening, these scenes repeat, painted in the dazzling tones of the sun’s descent into the Pacific Ocean. Sayulita surfers are participating in the sport they love, which happens to be one of the main attractions of this traditional Riviera Nayarit fishing village. From all over the world, surfing enthusiasts flock to this Sayulita beach, like a sacred site, with their boards on their backs, and hearts full with a passion for the waves.
WEATHER:
The weather in Sayulita generally is a bit milder than inside the Biha de Banderas (Home to Puerto Vallarta), which is 25 minutes southeast. November through April are picture perfect with temperatures around 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Nights are often cool enough to need a sweater and jeans. The summer months are hurricane season – but are extremely rare on this stretch of coast. Summer temperatures in Sayulita average 88F (highs are in the mid 90sF / 35C), with high humidity and rainstorms generally in the late afternoon/evening, which cools the air down for the night. August and September are the wettest months in Sayulita.

TO & FROM PUERTA VALLARTA AIRPORT:
Arriving in a foreign airport can be a fun and sometimes intimidating experience! Luckily, the Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport in Puerto Vallarta is pretty easy to navigate. After you pass through immigration, you’ll collect your luggage and both you and your bags will be scanned. Note: Make sure to grab one of the free carts available here to help you with your luggage! You’ll either get a green light to proceed out of the airport or you’ll get a red light and you’ll move to the tables to have your bags hand checked. After the luggage area, you’ll pass through a hallway of sorts, where timeshare folks will try to sell you on their product. You don’t need to stop here—only if you’re interested in finding out more about a timeshare. After the timeshare area, you’ll proceed outside where taxis will be waiting. Casa Rubicon is about 26 miles from the Puerto Vallarta Airport and takes about 45 minutes.
PRIVATE CAR:
If you’d prefer a more comfortable option without having to drive, then a private car service is recommended. There are numerous private car services that offer full-service transportation to and from the Puerto Vallarta airport to Casa Rubicon and Sayulita. Many of the services include a stop off at a location of your choice to stock up on groceries, beverages, or anything you may have forgotten to pack. The rates vary depending on transportation service options, but if comfort is the goal, then hiring someone to do the driving is the best choice. Simply make your reservation and your personal driver(s) will be waiting for you with a sign as you exit the PVR airport. Two well-known and recommended transportation companies are; Jose Ramos Transportation, and Sayulita Luxury Transportation.
CAR RENTAL:
If you are planning on being adventurous and exploring the Riviera Maya, a rental car might be the way to go! If you’re the type that would rather just relax at Casa Rubicon, then a car rental might not be worth the hassle and cost. There are several reputable car rental companies represented at the Puerto Vallarta airport, Avis being one that is highly recommended for quoting you a more accurate price ahead of time. The car rental companies tend to quote a lower rate which does not include mandatory insurance, resulting in much higher rates when you arrive at the desk. US car insurance does not automatically cover travelers while in Mexico, so you should check with your insurance. Often major credit cards will offer collision insurance on the vehicle if you use the card to pay for the rental. Check with your credit card company ahead of time.
TAXI:
An easy and stress-free way to get to Casa Rubicon is by taxi. Taxi fares are federally regulated and are non-negotiable. It is best to pay in pesos if possible (exchange your US dollars while you’re in the airport to get the best rate.) Taxis will also accept US dollars. Taxis and vans (for larger parties) charge per vehicle, not per person. You can buy your ticket at the ticket booth on the sidewalk. Make sure you have your address readily available because fares will depend on zones. A 2-3 person taxi to Casa Rubicon will cost approximately 800-900 pesos ($40-$50 US.)
